It just cannot compare with true authenticity, like that of Robert Johnson or Maya Angelou, I'm afraid. Possibly good if you live in a trailer yet still want to be Gothic.
My only gripe with MDB is that they never quite progressed past what Angel and the Dark River accomplished. They always release quality albums, but Angel is their strongest and most visionary work, IMO.

its funny that you mention that, i always like "Angel" the most too. "Light..." its pretty close in my book.

Always appreciated Aaron's attempt at Michael Gira, on that album. They're obviously SWANS fans but some of the vocal parts on Angel are so obvious.
Angel and the Dark River is so good, it's almost life changing.
