The weird alien animals reminded me of that Alien Planet show on Discovery. Turns out Barlowe did the concept art for it. Looks like he's done a shitload of concept art for movies and stuff also.

Finally watched Avatar. I nerdilly recognized all the designs of the jungle plant life and creatures as being very Wayne Barlowey. I just looked it up and confirmed. He did a lot of creature design on the movie.

Giant strange and terrifying looking creatures that are still "real" looking in their design. And completely covered with vivid fluorescent colors. Reminds me of the Alien Planet series he was behind.
