downstairs argh. Marduk was killer last time, but they need to be upstairs. Moonspell will be ok, they have a big enough sound to overcome the echo-y nonsense.
Without getting into a whole thing here, people still come up with effortless band names like this? I could probably tell you note for note what this band sounds like based soley on the metalcore madlibs band title.

They're actually closer to power metal than anything else, not at all metalcore even though they have the 3 word band name thing going on. It's the apostrophe placement and the resulting band name definition that's always puzzled me. FFG made there band name before metalcore was even a genre, and before saying a band sounds like something, maybe you should actually listen to them
After Burnsy and 1000 others recommended this band to me (including the legendary made up character of Joe C) I finally gave it a listen.

This whole lineup makes no sense. I listened to a song by The Foreshadowing on youtube expecting some really horrible attempt at black metal. Nope. It was like newschool Katatonia fused with Type O Negative based off the two minutes of it I beared to listen to. Horrible.
And then there's Moonspell... this whole lineup just reeks of down syndrome.
I understand Moonspell cause they were pretty much apart of that same scene as Marduk in the 90's even though they are a different band now. The Foreshadowing probably paid to be on this tour.

Nothing about the lineup makes sense. Inquisition and Marduk should be on one show, with moonspell and the foreshadowing on another show. Like Kevin said, moonspell is a completely different band now. Nowadays moonspell doesn't fit with black metal.

Arioch/Mortuus is a killer BM vocalist. The FUNERAL MIST lps have been some of the only BM I've given a fuck about in the last ten years. Everything I've heard from MARDUK in the last 5 years has been pretty good( to me,at least) and I'm definitely going to go. Wish B War was still on bass but fuck it...
I've got no problem with the main bill, but I like marduk, moonspell(even the goth and new stuff) and inquisition, I also enjoy a little variation in my shows. 4 hours of straight up blasting black metal would get old fast.
I'll also venture to bet that moonspell plays some of their early material considering the line up.

Show was pretty damn good. Yes, the fundergooses were in full swing. By the end of Marduk's set, Aril was starting to look like he was going to implode into some severe existential crisis or at least a vortex of some kind. I really hope this is a coincidence but I think my co-young'uns are now wearing corpsepaint as an ironic Guy Fawkes mask suchandfuck. Ugh.

Surface skimming and wearing corpsepaint at shows when they're A) not even in a band, B) not realizing that real black metal fans do not do that, and C) most of the original bands who wore corpsepaint have long since abandoned it.

I did want to go to this, but I'm trying to conserve money so I sat it out. Per Aril's comments about the sound being terrible, I guess I'm OK with having stayed home and listened to Dark Endless + Those of the Unlight albums instead.
I was looking at the mosh pit and it reminded me of a bouncy house at some kids party. Lots of ugly to be had at that show, when I left I saw a lot of half dressed young broads leaving the dcu center. I can now see the resentment towards the duck duck goosers, they should be restricted to afternoon shows.
As Nate dubbed him, Cannibal Cake and his cohorts were such a bummer. I saw the main corpse paint kid take off his cape and roll it up and put it in his cargo shorts which made up for Marduks bad sound. Also, saw some group photos being taken of the corpse kiddies, so I'm sure those will surface up on here for some lulz.

When was this? 1999? Even though i'm not a fan of any Marduk that i've heard, at least I can acknowledge that they were more respectable back then.
Also, i'm jealous. I saw Gorguts back in June, but I would've killed to have seen them back in their prime.
Oh, and I just noticed that The Foreshadowing were on this show. Worst band name ever. Even worse is that they try and emulate both Type O Negative and newschool Katatonia at the same time. Fucking terrible.

That show took place back around 2001. Eternal Suffering was the opening act and Gorguts played as a three piece.

Last time I heard FFG, the music was good but the vocals were awful.
From previous performances I've seen, Moonspell was awesome when we played with them in 2003 at L'Amour and again when we saw them at the Palladium in 2005. Haven't talked to my drummer yet to see how their set stood up to those...

Well, I may be wrong on this one, but I believe that the Funderground operates on what is commonly referred to as a "half-day Friday" schedule. This would explain the lack of motherfuckers getting started on within the duration of most Funderground-attended shows.

Basically off-topic at this point, but how was Boarcorpse? Did they go over well? How populated was the downstairs show anyway?
Hahaha, nope! It was very brutalll in the hemroid kinda way. The fucking dipstick soundguy decided that it was a good idea to put a gate on the kickdrum. (I used my accoustic kick ONLY because set times were so short, it's much faster to set up than my rig, and i figured the fucking palladium could make it sound good.... as that's usually the only part on any band i see at the palladium that sounds good) anyways, ya.. he put a fucking GATE on it. And he set the threshhold so high that when i didn't REALLY lean into it, there was no kick drum at all.. So any pattern on the kick turned into popcorn, and any constant fast kick dissapeared completely. I thought it was just my moniter maybe, but we watched the video of it last night, and it was fucking atrociuos.
So while I'm totally aware that the kick drum isn't the most important thing in the band..... when the soundguy puts a gate on it that cuts more than half of the hits totally out of the mix, it makes the rest of the band sound sloppy as holy fuck.
Sweet jumping fuck, i hate that soundguy. I'm never using my accoustic drum again.
That's ridiculous. I've used a gate on the kick when recording and blending the acoustic sound with a trigger in my DAW but I wonder what his reasoning was. I wouldn't downplay the role of the kick, especially in metal. A bad or good kick drum always stands out.
I'm not gonna lie, I still really enjoyed just being on the downstairs stage, but jesus backflipping christ, I wanted to strangle the sound guy, and his children. When we watched the video of the set, you can literally pick out people pointing, and laughing, and how TERRIBLE my drumming sounded. (it's really easy to pick out a handful of people when there's only a couple dozen on the floor in the first place) you know what? You can't really blame them, as it sounded like my feet were connected to my ankles with jelly... it's so sad, even people i know, like Anthony from Patho just looked confused when watching us. Ugh.
just terrible. Thankfully though, for all future shows, my band agrees with me that I should use my electronic kick rig, even when we have a short set, and it may make it slightly shorter. Anyways, I'm done complaining... i can't believe no one's called me a faggot yet.

Bad club-employed soundguys can really wreck shows, and more than occasionally do, a lot of times due to not being a musician (or a competent one) or otherwise not giving a fuck. It's not a majority of them, but there are way too many bad ones out there, and they never get fired for it.
From what I'm hearing about this show, the point isn't just gating the kick so high, which is stupid and asking for problems to begin with, but this: not noticing or correcting the problem song after song after song, which is incomprehensible and unforgivable.
Fucking a band's sound song after song due to ignorance or negligence is screwing the band over but also screwing the crowd over for the money they paid to get in, no less so than if their tickets weren't honored at the door. Note to fans: point and laugh at soundguy when things are that bad.
Rooms like the Palladium and the Webster already have high ceilings above the stage in a more classic theater room style that can make them challenging to mix, but that just underscores the fact that it's no time to be dicking around with kick gates instead of compensating for the room.
The idea that metal drummers with the talent of Jim should be reluctant to bring a real drumset because the soundguy is a damn moron is really a testament to the unbelievable rarity of clubs firing their in-house soundguy no matter how much he sucks.
