We played with Sauriel, solid black metal and good guys.

More death metal than black metal by far. To call them a BM band is silly. I personally find them to be rather boring and uninteresting. Fairly solid band that had a pretty solid drummer (even though he feathers the snare a little too on blasts). Seth, unless you can actually control your blast beats and cymbal accents, this is not the band for you I don't think. Summoning Hate was the best I have ever seen you play and its mostly just cause it was all crushing mid tempo stuff without any blast beats that was actually within your ability to play well.

Well these subgenre names are usually imperfect anyway but they call themselves black metal, and in any case it certainly has a very different feel than the melodic death metal with a dose of thrash style that say The Accursed had, since that's probably his last frame of reference. One can make an argument Sauriel isn't really black metal, but it certainly is more in that direction than The Accursed was.

I personally thought Sauriel's previous drummer main issue (IIRC) was how bad tonewise his snare and some of his cymbals sounded, despite his kick and toms sounding really really good. I remember my singer and I noticing that disparity when we were watching their set the second time we saw them play. Rest of the band sounded good at that gig, though, even though I have to admit I personally like The Accursed's style better.
