New site? Maybe some day.
Don't fucking call attention to this. I want it, but I have to scrounge the cash. |
Hahaha I'm kidding. But really, I'm gonna try to snag this. |
If I hadn't just thrown down on a new apartment, I'd give you a run for your money. If you get it, I'd love to take a look inside. I've never work on one before. |
Did that guy seriously post his name as "Cobra"? Either this dude is the goddamn man, or he's like 100lbs and looks like Steve Urkel. |
How the fuck did I miss that!? I'magonna call this dude just to chat about Desto. |
On my way to buy the VTM head right now for a piddling 100 bucks.
ONLY SIQ DEALS 4 MEEEE |
I almost thought the guy was gonna laugh at me when I offered that. He took it and I shat. |
FACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK need moar pv amp'd |
i'm more interested in the V series Mace at the Illinois Guitar center for 180 bucks... or the deuce that i'm going to drive to maine for if this craigslist gomer actually gets in touch with me. |
$100!?!? Break it so I can fix it! Nerd question: Does it still have the little plate that covers the DIP switches on the front panel? |
I know Cobra. Blond kinda heavyset kid who drives a tow truck? I used to be in a band with him for a summer when I was like 18. That thing has been sitting around his place for YEARS, so 100$ not surprising. |
Head is fully functional and rockin' hard kid. Contemplating sending it to JFA for mods since I got it so cheap.
Bradsauce: I had no clue they came with a cover for the swtiches. I have seen A LOT of VTMs over the years and I've never seen one with the cover. |
Oh and what is so great about these heads? I have never heard one that sounds any good. |
Blue: Glad to hear it weren't no lemon. And yeah, those covers are illusive/useless. Client of mine wants one for his VTM60, figured I'd ask.
Saxlbeckett: I don't know, I dig 'em. A lot people hate on the Ultra 120, too, but I like 'em. The both have a kinda unique high gain deal going on. Plus, those lil dip switches make it pretty versatile. Either way, $100 for a 120watt tube amp is damn good! |
The VTMs were the successor to the Butcher heads, which both are Peavey's take on a JCM 800 with a 6L6 power section.
With the hot rodded Marshall craze of the 80's, Peavey stopped the Butcher and started making the VTMs. The swtiches were their way of adding all the mods but still being able to keep it stock.
With the right overdrive/boost in front these heads absolutely KILL. These amps were what His Hero is Gone used and all the early Soundgarden albums had them as well. |
Wasn't one of the dudes from Black Breath using 2 x VTM60's? With a HM-2, of course. |
Yup they use them too, though the HM-2 is what does the work for them. |
Brad: when you drop off keiths pedal tonight, wanna take my metal zone and my TS9 and mod them? |
Blue LEDs sound better than Red ones. Fact. |
I just bought an eh micro pog and it doesn't run off batteries but has plenty of room for them inside. Can it be nodded for 9volts? |
I would imagine that it doesn't run off of batteries because it requires more than 9 volts of power. |
Oh and my judgement of the vtm was based on jay's vtm 60 which was never quite loud enogh. |
I'm thinking like a custom battery pack or something. Like the rechargeable batteries from a remote control car? |
I believe that it does run on roughly 9V, but I think their logic behind using a power supply has more to do with power consumption. I'm guessing that because it's using a DSP chip, it would drain batteries why too fast to make them practical. Also (not to sound like a super granola) batteries are awful for the planet. Also also, Sanyo has started making a battery pack for pedal boards for those who are worried about noise issues. Check it.

Yeah those sanyo battery packs look pretty cool. Ill stick with my wall wart though. Not so costing 100 bucks. |
Right? Plus I KNOW I'd forget to charge that shit. |
