Tsunami warnings for Hawaii and West Coast areas too, though it should be small when it hits the US. |
And how about the building that is on fire while riding the tsunami? |
yeah wow, this could get infinitely worse. |
Its the end of the world as we know it... and I feel fiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnne |
They were saying only 50 deaths? How can that be possible? |
I think they usually speak of confirmed deaths, the devil is in the details like how many are missing. (Im on a phone and have yet to see the actual reports) |
I find Japan's natural disasters far more intellectual and thought provoking than the typical Disney garbage you see in American natural disasters. |
I suppose they've had disaster practice since 1945 --- ooooh, now that's just inappropriate. |
you used to watch creature double feature |
I'd love to visit Japan, I took four years of Japanese in college. |
Old news. Shit happened hours ago.
Best of luck to Japan |

Of course. Channel 38, I believe. I still remember the sense of elation that used to bring -- aaahh, the early 80s... |
Yeah, how many megatons was this earthquake? |
It's a cover-up -- real culprit below:
My old guitar player lives there now. He is ok, but worried about more tsunamis. |
wow. yeah the japs are on a fault line and are prepared for this but there's not much you can do against a quake like that. |
of course they knew it was coming and were prepared. they live in the future |
FUCK YO' FAULT LINES NIGGA!
Some of the videos are fucking hairy man. Quake was no joke. |

I'm dissapointed that members of this juvenile board are simply posting images of Godzilla and Mothra when there are a plethora of far more interesting Kaiju they could have showcased. Oh dear, I seem to have spilled cheeto dust all over my keyboard. |
Going to listen to Nasum and Katrina and the Waves on my commute home.
Might even listen to Blood Tsunami. |
Yeah, sounds like a lot more than the 50 dead they were originally saying. |
I'm getting numbers of something around 300 dead from one city and lots more missing; from BBC. |

The classics are classics for a reason!
Think we'll still get a Vomit Remnants reunion? |

Yahoo! news just reported over 30billion dead. |

it's strange... the history channel (or nat geo) was airing the tsunami documentary all last week |
hit again with a M6+.
they are also saying 88,000 missing people. |
Word at work from Hawaii is that the flooding is not nearly as bad as the news is making it out to be. |

The government must hav told them too, since they have the secret earthquake weapon that was used on hati in the past. |

God frowns upon lazy hobby rockers and if those lazy jap hobby rockers had worked hard and sold a couple of tickets those people wouldnt have died |

Revenge on Pearly Harbor? Did those people forget Hiroshima?
One of my best friends has been stationed in Okinawa for the past few months in the Marines. From what I hear, the military bases are fine, I just still haven't heard from him. Pretty worried, not gonna lie. Hopefully he just has his hands full and not something else. |

Me fail history, that's unpossible.
Pearl Harbor was a military base. We decimated 2 of their cities, civilians and all.
I really hope that post above was fake, but probably not. |
heretic. don't you dare soil the Wookie name by comparing the two. my Kashyyyk brethren will not stand for this. |
Haha, that was what everyone called Eric years ago. I am told that he hates it. |
all joking aside, this really is unreal. Japan will never be the same. the worst hasn't even really hit yet either. |
Yeah, I can't even comprehend being one of those 1 or 2 survivors from villages of 1000+ people. The situation with the reactor's is also insane. Its amazing what they stood up to and are only on the road to destruction, rather than being there. I read in a couple articles that the quake-resistant designs worked really well but that the weak tsunami planning for the reactors and their support buildings was what has caused the most trouble.
BTW Rev it looks like the estimate you brought up the other day, that I thought was chinatown at the time, is looking less far-fetched. |
do you think some people out there have Sanrio decorated personal body bags? |
clouds of nuclear radiation are heading towards the us. dis not good. |
am I the only one who thinks the gozilla jokes are too obvious and really hack? |
I wonder how many Bukkake dens were destroyed?
OH THE HUMANITY!!! |
People I know here in Santa Cruz have been saying that they havn't had an earthquake, a big one especially, in a long time. It's just building up. I have to say that I am slightly excited to experience and earthquake someday... |

The crew of Engineers who have stayed to try and control the Fukushima-Daiichi meltdown are real fucking heroes. Basically signing their own death certificates. There shall be many songs sung in their honor. |

"Please do not go outside. Please stay indoors. Please close windows and make your homes airtight," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told residents in the danger zone.
Wow, this advice is right up there with "Duck & Cover". |
I've been finding that there is very little consistency in the analysis of the reactors' situations(everything from its-bad-but-we're-cool to radiological apocalypse). But as far as I can tell(from NYT, BBC, Al Jazeera and GlobalPost) no reactor actually has melted down yet. Radioactive material has been released into the atmosphere but it was blown offshore, which is why the US Navy helos ran into it and we pulled the carrier farther offshore.
This BBC article seems to put most of the relevant information together well:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12749444
"Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said they were closely watching the remaining two reactors at the plant, five and six, as they had begun overheating slightly.
He said cooling seawater was being pumped into reactors one and three - which were returning to normal - and into reactor two, which remained unstable."
Update quote from NYT, referring to the reactor that had the 2nd explosion this morning I believe:
“The only ideas we have right now are using a helicopter to spray water from above, or inject water from below,” a power company official said at a news conference. “We believe action must be taken by tomorrow or the day after.” |
This is a really great blog entry about: how nuclear plants work, what is happening in Fukushima, how it is both similar and unique when compared to Chernobyl and Three Mile Island.
Never forget but get it right |
I hope there are some really cool bugs or lizards living around there. |
