I'm more of a fan of older nokturnal mortum, like goat horns, lunary poetry, etc.
but this new album is certainly incredible. the production is ridiculous for them and they've got pink floyd type parts now. the atmosphere is extremely prevalent as well. definitely one of their best albums...and one of the best albums to come out in the past few months.
I like this and I'm glad they stopped doing those fag gypsy yelps because that made me want to oppress them.

The first minute and a half of the linked song make me want to play some FFVI or Suikoden.

This sounds like a Ukranian version of Menhir mixed with Bathory - Hammerheart to me. I approve.

link??
sounds MASSIVE...this was mastered at Mana studios, fucking interesting.
still the only band that does folk metal right and one of the only bands whom symph i adore.
really? to me, when a band lives in a country like Ukraine and are NS it only adds to the effect. when a band lives in a country like the US and claims to be NS, that's when it's ridiculous.
new Negura Bunget [sic] is good but the drums come off as weak. Nokturnal's drummer is relentless, Nechrist pushes lightspeed at parts, and even the folk rhythms of all NM's material stay solid at triple-speed.
eh I am a viking history buff but I got over people not knowing their history, I mean just looking at pictures of a lot of traditional european cultures can confuse the uninitiated.
My historical oddity is the huge Chinese Muslim population and the Jewish Muslims, and the Japanese who say jesus moved there and became an onion farmer and everyone thought he was crazy.
Eh I tend not to read the lyrics as I don't understand slavic or Norwegian and thus english translations would fail to bring across the emotional aspect of the music.
But I'm all for living in the woods free of the man taking my money so I guess this is why I tend to love bands like Nokturnal Mortum and Negura Bunget, they sound like something that a bunch of angry farmers made after a night of drinking in some moon-lit grove in eastern European forests.
Also, Big tip of my hat to Aril for making this thread. I rarely hear when new albums come out and by reading this thread I discovered that both Negura and NM came out with albums, both of which are amazing.
A crappy sounding kick trigger sample ruins the atmosphere for me. NM could be called atmospheric too.
lol, you drummers care way too much about drum sounds sometimes.
although I am somewhat with you, I'm not opposed to triggers in "atmospheric" metal.
Granted, the real thing is more organic and real sounding- which is better. When I think atmosphere though, I think of guitars/keys/vocals/production. Drums are usually the last thing I worry about unless it's unbearable
the old bass player joke is that we can't hear the technical parts of music, which is true for me. I listen to music and then if I have a guitar-nerd listening with me they point out all this shit that I can't pick up. Like what kind of guitars they are using, keys they are playing in. I play bass purely by ear with the least bit of knowledge of music theory, I know how to read sheet music but that's where my knowledge of theory ends.

this album is a sonic orgasm of warring pride.
tracks 5 and 8 are surreal.
