The internet... where people go to be what they can't be in real life.
Many people have good reason to hate the ANUS.com metal forum and I agree with them.
They see it as a place where people are highly critical and elitist just to hear themselves talk and appear intelligent to others.
In their minds, it's a bunch of social retards showing off to each other, and is identical to what the Pantera and Opeth fans are doing when they try to be "tough" or "open-minded."
I can understand wanting to only listen to the best. Using it as an excuse to put down other people is really gross.
People don't adopt beliefs because they think they're right; they use them as fashion accessories.
They adopt beliefs because they think those beliefs make them look cool or have a purpose.
That's metal in a nutshell.
Increasingly, I see this as the reason humanity is retarded: individuals are doing things for the wrong reasons, e.g. acting a certain way to be seen as smart, egalitarian, kind, hip or whatever.
It's backward thinking. Instead of doing things to get a result, you pretend to have a result so you look like you're doing things. I can't quite wrap my brain around it.
I think ANUS should purge itself (heh heh) of the fakes and poseurs who give it a bad name.
