The man, Joseph M. Ramos Jr., 42, lived a half block down on Milton Street and was well known in the neighborhood as a kind but eccentric man, ubiquitous on his bicycle as he rode around town performing odd jobs, according to neighbors and his family. On Tuesday night, however, he knocked on his neighbor's door brandishing a "pole with several nails protruding from it" and wrestled with one of the officers who responded to Milton Street at 9:15 p.m.
according to a press release from the Bristol district attorney's office and a witness.
