What methods has anyone used to transfer VHS tapes onto their PC to either burn to DVD or post online?
Yes, I've googled a few times but can't seem to come up with results that I'm looking for.

just take a camcorder and record the whole thing on a tripod in front of a tv.
works like a charm.

My step-dad owns a vhs to dvd recorder, but it's a pain in the ass. I'd rather capture it directly onto a hard disk.

Yeah you'll need a video card on your PC with a composite input. They also have USB converter boxes that have composite inputs, relatively cheap.

I just bought one of these:

Don't get the more expensive one, the only difference is software. All you need is Windows Movie Maker. It works pretty good... I used it to rip old Acephalus videos from VHS.

VHS sucks.
which is why I'm transferring old home movies to digital so they don't continue to suck worse.

Try going through the list and comparing products, you should be able to find a similar device that will work with 64
