Which one do you think I should get?

II

depends on what you're looking for. do you want a much more useable clean channel? if so, go for the II. the reg 5150/6505 are going to have a slightly darker character. i used to always find myself fighting with the presence/treble on my II.

dont own a 5150/6505 without a quality boost pedal, though. a nice modded tubescreamer really brings out the best in one.

Blue, who was it that would mod my TS9? I really want that done...

http://bodenhamer-electronics.com

this is a metal guy on the harmony-central forums that mods pedals for dirt cheap. he modded my sd-1 and i love it.

this is the guy that modded my ts7, and i love it just a little bit more to be honest. dont know what this guy is charging nowadays though. i got mine 2 years ago.

Doesn't someone on this board do it? I remember talking to him a while back. He only wanted like 20-30 bucks.

Joshstruction and myself also mod pedals.

I've never done a TS-9 though..

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard at Jan 4,2009 7:21pm
I think it may have been Josh....where dat nigga at?

Depending on the mod, if it's switching a few resistors or capacitors, it's probably an easy DIY kind of thing. Just a matter of finding out what the mod is.

YES. take it from the most dictatorial, obsessive compulsive, trv kvlt tone warrior out there..the metal god's will look favorably upon you.

or just go out and try them both yourself and make a decision for yourself, by yourself.

I think I can do it myself after some research as I'm good with a soldering iron but where do I get the mod material and instructions?

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jan 4,2009 10:01pm
Searching online I guess. There are a bunch of pedal mod forums out there. I don't remember any specific ones, though.

I wouldnt be surprised to find youtube videos that go into full detail on how to get the job done.

what would be a better cab for this set two?, the 5150 III's come with a straight cabnet... the older ones are slanted.

the 5150 is hands down a better amp for metal than the 5150 II. the II is very good, but it doesn't have the same character as the I. as blue said the 6505 sounds pretty much just like the 5150, and i've found its highs to be a little bit clearer.
