I just reinstalled version 2.0 on to my desktop.
I'm scanning my harddrive with all my photos on it.
last time I did this with vers 1.0, it killed my hard drive.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Dec 31,2008 6:29pm
Works great for me, I fucking love LR.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Dec 31,2008 6:29pm
then again I don't have 8 million photos.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 31,2008 6:45pm
it's 2% imported. the reason I'm doing it is cause I started to synch my photos onto my iPod and my new desktop is getting set up to have everything synch through it, be a media server, etc...
I'm going to make it make playlists for each show that I shoot or set of pictures that I take and then synch the last month or two worth of pictures.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 31,2008 8:49pm
12% done. heh...

toggletoggle post by pam   at Dec 31,2008 8:54pm

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 31,2008 8:59pm
I have 2x1.5 with the data mirrored across them...
I need to figure out how to get LR to mirror for me, I guess

the worst part is this system only has 1GB RAM right now (1GB went bad and the 4GB I bought for this doesn't work for this system)

You're gonna get sodomized.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 9:48am
yeah, tell me about it.
I ended up turning the system off a couple minutes ago.
going to put back in the "bad" RAM and see if that works.

All through this holiday season, I've had the RAM jones so bad I can taste it (literally -- I think I bit my tongue).

When is more RAM worse? Very rarely...

When is more RAM better? Almost always...

What's the best way to speed up a PC? Faster HD and more RAM... and in some cases, faster RAM.

I won't be happy until I stuff each machine with at least 4 GB and stick a boot SSD in each.

Since you work with big-ass photos, you need the RAM more than most. It's certainly deductible. It's most likely also going to reduce stress and constipation in your life.

It could even get you on YouTube.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 10:13am
if you have an SSD designed right, why do you need RAM at all?!?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 10:17am
hilarious... the other 1GB stick just worked again...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 10:20am

It worked and then died? The 1066-to-800 mhz?

I would investigate BIOS settings here...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 11:34am
no, it's old 533MHz. I have 2x1GB Ocz tech and one of those doesn't work.
the 2x2GB 1066 is still at my work since it doesn't work. All new egg will do with it is exchange it.

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Jan 1,2009 11:52am
I like the OCZ RAM I've encountered. Some boards require a certain speed of memory in bank 0, but get flexible in bank 1.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 5:08pm
I have 4 banks. maybe I will try a 533 in bank 0, and then 1066 in bank 2,

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 5:09pm
btw: I started the re-import.

What IS adobe lightroom?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 1,2009 9:35pm
3%...

it's a program that auto-catalogs all your photos and you can get statistics on photo usage, lens usage, camera usage, etc... you can also make libraries that you can load up on your ipod, etc.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 2,2009 7:51pm
OF FUCKING COURSE. I put in the 800Mhz RAM and it just constantly reboots.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 3,2009 11:41am
version 2.2 has a memory leak (confirmed in the adobe forums). Upon trying to export large quantities of images the amount of RAM LR uses increases slowly up to 100% causing a crash. I reverted back to version 2.1 and it works again except the adjustment brushes run slow and the graduated filter sometimes causes LR to crash. Hope they release a 2.3 fix soon.

so does lightroom actually change the files? that's what I'm not understanding. Keywords, etc.. are just added to the catalog files, right?

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 3,2009 12:31pm
catalog files/xmp files is all it changes.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 12:31pm
oh so it does undersant xmp's? what if you have xmp's from PS already?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 12:32pm
this is adobe trying to keep up with NX 1.0... they sort of did it better cause they worked in the bridge interface that NX lost with view being a separate app.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 12:34pm
I was also an idiot and made my main drive 50GB with 300GB data... need to move the catalog files to the data drive.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 3,2009 12:35pm
yes, when I imported files from my laptop into my desktop catalog it imported the xmp data as well.

I still need to figure out how to get that process to go smoother so I don't lose any changes to files when doing anything on my laptop and bringing it home.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 12:36pm
right. I'm curious about auto cataloging the images are I copy them to my back up.

there's an option to 'import from catalog', not sure if I used that option or not...hmm.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 3,2009 12:41pm
could be a way to merge another catalog into another...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 12:43pm
the reason I'm doing it is so I can get stats and there is an option with itunes to synch libraries... like all pictures of the past month. though I wish it would auto catalog every day for the past month.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 3,2009 1:12pm
itunes is a piece of shit, I want as little to do with that program enough...having to use it for my iphone is already too much itunes for me. fuck!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 3,2009 1:15pm

I need itune for my iPod. since I can synch photos too, I want to synch the last months worth of pictures. The only problem is that the libraries that it has are completely hard to go through unless you load from separate libraries when you are adding files.

556488 pictures over 10 years.
it found 6905 duplicates from 2001.
it found 31 corrupt files. I need to try to find the originals now.
I think I have some ooooold back ups somewheres.

The files appear to be unsupported or damaged. (31)

the others are lost right now. going to look at my little laptop. that is the time that this laptop crapped out and I was using externals to transfer between different computers.
