who is this "Jared Thomas Lord" guy? He any good? Does he have a big band that plays with him? Cause when i saw Nick Cave at the Orpheum in '01 he had about 15 people on stage with him, strings, percussion, choir singers, the dirty three, AND of course the bad seeds. Seriously, is this kid gonna do all that, or just play stuff from early enough in his career only to pull it off with less people? I would be excited if i thought anyone could pull off Nick with anything less than an entourage. |

I have a DVD of them live from that tour in PARIS and it's insane. Great professional quality. And they play stuff from every album up to No more shall we part. (the best romantic record ever) and even some stuff from the birthday party years. It rules. Want me to burn it and try and get it to you at a show or something? |

The show i went to originally got cancelled cause it was like a month after 9/11 and Nick didnt want to come here. They ended up rescheduling in like march of the next year. so i guess it was '02. They played a super long set because they made everyone wait six months to see em. I had camped overnight for tix too, so i was extra excited about the set. Fourth row dead center of the orpheum. Couldnt believe how cool the man was, when he was singing "Stagger Lee" he was the biggest baddass ever, and when he sang "The mercy seat" he was totally fucking batshit... speaking of batshit Balixa did that high pitch squeel in "Stagger Lee" and it almost blew my eardrums out. Brutal. |

I was listening to "No more shall we part" all day yesterday (well that and "Nightfall on middle earth" and Nick has become one of the most original, passionate vocalists on the planet. And the bad seeds have finally figured out how to really play their instruments. Not that the early stuff's music is bad, its' just gotten so much better, not to mention the dirty three add a lot to it.
Have you heard any of the dirty three's records? It's really depressing, but real good nonetheless.
I know its not even close to the same but have you heard "The devil's Brie" by Voltaire? Way more folkie than Nick and far more upbeat in a much less heroin influenced way, but still frieking awesome. |

No and I don't think so. I've heard some Voltaire and I don't remember liking it much but that was a long time ago so I'll have to check it out. |

Voltaire is really hit or miss though. His first record "The devil's Brie" is great. His second "Almost Human" is good in its own regard but not quite as dark an folkie as the previous record. The One/ones(?) after that are terrible. Don't check them out. |

I bet most people on this site would really like "The Devil's Brie" though. It has some seriously awesome fucking music on it. Great drumming, an incredable violin player, good acoustic guitar/bass, and his vocals are really smart/dramatic/witty. Although after that record they dropped a couple people, and it all went down hill. |
