Which is a better bass amp company SWR or Ampeg ???

I prefer ampeg.

If you can afford a good Ampeg, they are better.

SWR cabs and ampeg heads.

+1 on what blue said. SWR heads are nutorious for being to quiet.

Ampeg and SWR cabs are booth good, but I'd go with SWR over the two.


and of course on top of both, I'd go with Gallien Krueger.

If I could pick any production head right now, it would definitly be the fender bassman pro 300 BTW. That amp has more tone than any human should be asked to handle.

I would choose Ampeg. Expensive as hell, though.

My SWR head isn't quiet at all.......... But I still want an Ampeg SVT classic

Honestly, the bass head I really want is a Fender Bassman 300 Pro. It was actually a SUNN besing but Fender kept producing it after they bought SUNN. It's seriously one of the most bitchin' amps ever.

SWR all the way. especially for metal. Ampeg has more of a "rock" tone and wont give you that nasty punch you need to cut through loud ass guitars. Unless that's not what you're looking for. I loooooove my SM-900 though.

I play thru Ampeg all the way. I think SWR's are nasty though. It really depends what else is around you too. swinesack has some of the best tone i've ever heard though. several of us brethen have committed about it in our secret society meetings.

i've played on a Sunn one time... sweet fucking tone. punchy as fuck. i will have to look into that bassman 300....

Cool thing is it is 2 channels, and they can be footswitchable, and you can also blend the two channels. Built in compression too for ome serious punch. As much as I like ampeg stuff, it blows all the ampeg gear I have owned out of the water. That consist of SVT3, SVT4, SVT, B2R, and a SVT PRO preamp.

I used have an SWR back in the day... real nice tone but I always wanted an Ampeg. I'd say get an SWR power amp and a big ass Ampeg cab. That should do ya right.
