New site? Maybe some day.
That fucking rules. I've never seen a comet. :( |
hah...I didn't even see the lightning, I just saw "comet" and got all nerd-excited. |

Its not real, at least not taken at the same time.
Looks like an HDR merge. |
It's pretty bullshit though... |

case in point.
YOU CANT SEE SHIT FOR STARS OR COMETS IN HEAVILY SETTLED AREAS WITH LOTS OF LIGHT POLLUTION |
yeah, I was going to search for it, but decided to brush my teeth instead.
some of those pictures on their are composed of more than one shot and fuax-colored. |
digitally enhanced of course, but not necessarily fake. |
one of the best techniques for shooting galaxies is to take 3+ shots with a star tracking mount, and merge them together. you can get galaxy shots with your 70-200mm. if you look at a nebula far off and think "wow, that looks cool. I would love to see that", but a lot of the shots are taking IR, Xray, and other things we just can't see.

grammar police, where are they? They's coming ta throw ya in da gulag.
yeah, it's definately enhanced, looks like a few images mended together. |
Some of those images on the NASA site are incredible, but then I unconsciously add, "...and you will never get to go there and neither will any human who will ever live." to the end of each description. |
Umm... am I the only one who noticed that the clouds are illuminated by the fireworks only on the left side of the image?
Why is the lightning not casting a reflection on the water?
I've seen moon landings faked better than this. |
That website 'Astronomy Picture of the Day' kicks ass... |
"The above image is actually a three photograph panorama digitally processed to reduce red reflections from the exploding firework." |
