That album is ridiculous.

it really is...I haven't been able to have anything else in my cd player for weeks. It destroys everything I've heard in a long time.

I wouldn't go as far as 'all time', but for me, one of the best albums this year.

I've actually tried to rotate in some other Cds becuase I'm afraid of overplaying it. They were fuckin sick at the palladium too. They've distanced themselves from the pack with this album.

I like the vocals a lot on this one, I don't really think they sound too much like BLS except for the fact that they both involve some burly crooning.

the only thing lacking in prior mastodon releases was interesting vocals, and i think they have that area covered on this album. they started experimenting with less bland vocals on the last album, but it wasn't enough. the music is still a lot more interesting than the vocals, but now they add something to the mix instead of just merely being there.

I also just like the music more. The album has that rare capacity to both grab you on the initial listen, and deepen with each successive spin. A top 10 for this year, with ease.

Yeah, Mastodon is really good stuff, I've enjoyed them since the demo (and some of the members' work in previous bands).

One of my favorite aspects is the drumming, it is just so interesting, there are few bands I could listen to just for the drummer, Mastodon is one of them.

Yeah, it's not even just because they are crazy...the guy writes good drum parts that compliment the songs. 90% of what I hear in metal is just by-the-numbers drumming, rarely is it that creative (and truth be told, it rarely needs to be).

In my opinion Mastodon is one of the most creative metal bands to come out in a decade. Brutally heavy and not trying to follow any sort trends. If you like Brain's drums on Mastodon, check him out on Today is the Day.

They have great riffs and songwriting, that is all that matters as far as the guitar playing goes.

i back that Pam. i heard some of the new stuff, and its just as boring and mundane as the earlier stuff. when i see the name Mastodon, i think of something GIGANTIC in sound thats ultra heavy and crushing. not necessarily death metal, something almost like Warhorse. but to me they just fail to deliver. the vocals are terrible too. and no not because they arent death metal, i just dont care for them.

Mastodon is crap. I have tried over and over to listen to their music and I have compiled a list of shit that I don't like about it.

1.) Not one of their songs hit a high point anywhere. No crescendo at all. It's always the same monotonous drudge.

2.) There is no difficult riffing anywhere in any of their songs that I have ever heard.

3.) They dye their hair.

4.) Hail The Leaf likes them.


Due to all of these reasons....I hate this band and their shitty music.

bought the cd today listened to it a bunch. it's good but remissions is still my favorite cd by them. by far.

i saw mastodon live at the unholy alliance tour.

then i thought i saw them live again shortly after, but then i realised i was just watching the turd i dropped getting flushed down the toilet.

the 2nd time was much better because i was regular for the rest of the night.

Ilike em a lot but I'm still waiting for the day when a certian someone on this board told me two years ago, after I said Lamb of God was building up to be the Pantera of this decade (agrue if you'd like), that Mastadon was going to be the next Metallica.

I heard 3 tracks from "Blood Mountain". They were pretty good but nothing to make me think the album is one of the all time best. I'll tell ya, people like to exaggerate.

Also, I do like the vocals a bit better than the last record and the drums actually make sense now.

It's not one of the all time best albums, by a longshot. But as far as heavy music this year, yes it is.
