If I get an external hard drive with USB 2.0, will I be able to use it through a normal USB port (though it'll be really slow) or does 2.0 only work with 2.0 ports?

2.0 is backwards compatible.
a 2.0 drive will work in a 1.1 port and a 1.1 drive will work in a 2.0 port.
hell, a 1.0 drive should work in either of them.. but there were some issues with 1.0, that's why they came out with 1.1 so quickly.

Nizice, I gotta get a firewire drive for school, figured I'll get a firewire/USB2 combo since they seem to be less expensive and I don't have firewire here, just USB 1.x.
