New site? Maybe some day.

Probably the greatest USA black metal band of all time. Often times under rated and shunned because of their controversial attitudes. GBK is Black Metal the way it is supposed to be: blasphemous and very offensive. If you don't own a GBK record you should not be into black metal....
your about a week late bud, they play Manch last saturday and the discussion has already been done
Grand Bigot's Key, yes, TOTALLY the best USA black metal band of all time....well, after a few dozen others that come to mind, eh? |
I like GBK, but absu gets my vote for best u.s black metal |

I enjoy the CD they traded. Really good music.
I'm all for hating Christians, but I draw the line with Nazism because when you consider its rise in the last century, it was totally establishment in Germany. I thought Black Metal involved hatred for the status quo.
Plus they censored everything, just like the PMRC in the 80's
If Nazis were in charge, folks, you would not be allowed to listen to metal.
Or if you WERE allowed, you may have been shocked to have found that their idea of good shit was Wretched Asylum or some crap like that RATHER THAN the Wagnerian seasoning of "Blood Fire Death" / "Hammerheart". That would be a rude wake-up call.
And then it would be too late. Just something to consider.

Well, at least the guy said 'probably the greatest USA black metal band' as opposed to 'definitely', because they are most definitely not.
Comparing December Wolves, Leviathan or Kvlt ov Azazel to GBK is like sandblasting a soupcracker. |
Leviathan is my pick. I've been listening to that fucker non-stop for months. |
hahahaha, that rules,
Total add. ADD. |
Oh yeah, leviathan is a sick BM bastard |
I was listening to that second track off his "Speed of Darkness" split with Iuvenes and it's sooooooo creepy. Almost psychadelic in his drones, howls and screeches, it truly is evocative of a hostile and desolate alien landscape. Think the old 70's cartoon movie "Fanastic Planet", only with corpsepaint and even more shrooms.
The Baby: OOOOOOOOOOO!
The Immigrant: AAAAAAAAAAHH!
The Guy on Mushrooms: UUUUUUUUUUUUUHH...
I had not thought to hallucinate to Leviathan but now that you mentioned it, I will at the next available opportunity. |
Leviathan definitely is THE choice for best american "band", but Kult of Azazel is a very close second.
Did anyone notice the Indiana Jones BM band that was one of Rakun's friends? http://www.myspace.com/sallah |
myspace is full of errors today
I wonder if I should start a side BM project about Wholphins. |
or dredels, that should throw a curveball!
Israeli Black Metal, not unheard of |
Right now I'd say Morbosidad is my favorite. totally brutal heavy shit.
Leviathan is great too. I spent 2 weeks just listening to all his old demo material. Truley a talented individual. |

those are them! I think I have most of them. Lot and Lots and Lots of hours of great stuff! |

might you be able to hook me up? I eat anything and everything Wrest puts out.
All I have other than the Moribund stuff is Verrater and the Misanthropic Necro Blasphemy re-release on cassette. I was telling Andee at tUMULt that if he ever released a Leviathan box set of the early shit there'd very likely be a lucrative market for it.
I may have some items I could trade if interested. |
I think Rakun also has the Klingon death/black metal band Sto'vo'kor friended. Pretty funny shit, but I prefer the Rakun music. |
As much as I like the demos on Verrater, I think my favorite Leviathan was 'Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide' followed closely by 'Tentacles of Whorror'. |
I personally find GBK's (and ARGHOSLENT's) racism to be pretty funny... I don't subscribe to such beliefs on a personal level, but Alex/Gelal lyrics are pretty creative and witty, whether dealing with Christians, Jews, slaves, whatever. They don't really delve into politics either, which certainly seperates them from a lot of other racist BM/DM bands. |
I thought Leviathan's sound was original myself...still haven't gotten into Xasthur, but I shall listen again.
Arghoslent is a great band, it's true they are racist but I always viewed them as more of a 'historical' band with their lyrics. Not to mention their music is excellent.
But I do think there are many other USBM bands better than GBK, as far as the original post in the thread. |

flogging the cargo! |

Most of the black metal bands in the New England area could make a serious run at being the "best" USBM band. Some of my favorite non-NE USBM: Wind of the Black Mountains, Blood Storm, Krieg, Winter of Apokalypse, Nachtmystium, and Weakling
I really don't like that USBM band Harvist. I listened to A Gleam in the Night and it had the absolute worst production I've ever heard. It wasn't even the good visceral feeling you get from a hissing lo-fi tape recorder, it was just really tinny and shitty sounding. |

I agree, we certainly have one of the stronger BM scenes in the US (it would seem). I guess it's not saying much since the BM scenes are still far stronger elsewhere in the world, but at least its something. I'm not sure I 'get' the loathing other parts of the world seem to have for USBM. Wind of the Black Mountains and Blood Storm are pretty cool, I don't think I've heard Weakling.
I didn't like Harvist either. |

I have two GBK shirts for sale/trade...One is LS the other is SS.. |

Kult ov Azazel is boring and the vocalist is terrible...

Why stop at just hating Christianity? Because it's pc in the metal realm? Spit on all middle eastern shit religions and their followers... Judaism (the Jewish faith), Christianity, and Muslim all breeds fascism. Expose their flock of shit. Hebrews are the ones that destroyed Paganism in Europe.
and don't get me wrong... I am not a nazi. Nazism leaves no room for the individual. Another herd mentality that gives people comfort. The aesthetics of it are fascinating nonetheless. |

Well, to each his/her own, I've never known any two metal fans to agree on very much (except maybe all the single-genre followers), but I'm listening to their latest record "The World, The Flesh & The Devil" right now, and it is neither boring me nor is the vocalist terrible, especially not in comparison to GBK.
