so.. my current car is making a lot of bad noises and has over 223,000 miles on it... so I need to start looking for a new car.
I need THE MOST gas mileage for the $$.

these are the current two cars that i'm looking at (no, I will not buy your used ford explorer).

civic-hybrid gets 51 mpg (hiway)
toyota carolla gets 41 mpg (hiway)

I know actual gas dollar-wise I would never make back the $6K, but I would sort of feel like I'm investing on the future of a technology (like all the computers I bought in the pass laid the capitol for current companies to make cheaper/faster computers), but then again.. it's $6K, financed over x years.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 18,2005 9:56am
i'd go with the civic, but i'm a truck guy myself, so what do i know?

i\'m looking into getting quotes now =)

when ever I see some on with a truck, I always think "man, they must have a small penis"
especially if that truck is huge like dyingmuse's

my penis is pretty normal. i bought my first truck off my dad for an unbeatable price when i got my license, and i've never really felt comfortable driving anything other than a truck. i hate the shitty gas mileage they get.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2005 10:09am edited Mar 18,2005 10:10am
I drove my dad's trucks (they were always huge).. but I never got use to them.
I also drove my mom's jeep, but I was always more comfortable with compact cars.

PS: didn't you know that listing dick length is a pre-req for the RTTP comp? you obviously didn't read the contract.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 18,2005 10:13am
i just signed the contract and sent it off. i hope he still puts my band on it without having our dick lengths listed. i think i may have wrote in the girths for the hell of it though.

HAHAHAHA! Dan will love that. his truck comes in handy when we play shows, because we can fit sooo much equipment in it (and yeah, there's ALOT of it with 7 members)

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at Mar 18,2005 10:22am
I'd go with the civic just because the corolla is ugly.

toggletoggle post by ~carina at Mar 18,2005 10:23am
what about when you drive my truck?
so far i can get the honda hybrid for 3% over factory invoice and i have it in writing, so if we bring that to a dealer...they\'d have to beat it
umm anyone comment on this \"deal\"?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2005 10:26am
since I have no clue what "factory invoice" is....

toggletoggle post by ~carina at Mar 18,2005 10:27am
whenever you get a quote you always see the factory invoice...
ok deal for toyota is:
Dealer Discount: $799 BELOW FACTORY INVOICE

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2005 10:27am
ps: I drive 33-40,000 miles a year.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Mar 18,2005 10:28am
get a jaguar....or a toyota because thats a bit more realistic and they last forever.

normally I'd say the civic, but I hate the Hybrids.

get a regular civic. I have had mine for 10 years and the fucker is still going. Bought it brand new. Good little cars. Nothing ever wrong with it besides getting general mantainance/ and new exhaust. it has paid for itself, but it's your call.

no seriously, if you get a hybrid you'll need 1 of those stickers that says "eat my voltage"..... The Toyota is the way to go!

I might not even be able to get the civic... they don't have them anywhere.

hybrids are dumb. id hate to be sitting on that much battery when it explodes. a normal car batt sounds like a gunshot when they blow up so i could only imagine.
i want one of these:

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Mar 19,2005 3:10am edited Mar 19,2005 3:11am
toyota...there are a lot more on the road therefore partsare a hell of a lot cheaper...not to mention the $5.5K you would save initially... also... how big is the gas tank on the civic and how big is the gas tank in the toyota? im sure the civic's gas tank is tiny therefore nullifying the mpg advantage.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 19,2005 9:05am
toyota = 440 miles/tank
civic = 630+ miles/tank

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 19,2005 9:08am edited Mar 19,2005 9:08am
oh and the battery is in the trunk, on top of the gas tank.
I can see why you would be worried about an explosion. I mean, it's not like there is anything in the vecinity of the gastank that has the potiential to explode. just ask the fiat.

every person I tell I want to get a new car tells me that their sister's selling a Ford Explorer with low miles "18 mpg too, that's pretty good!".

I would look into getting a deisel WV since I really like the technology AND it gets 500 miles to a tank (I hate stopping for gas), but you either have to be in a sorority or a gay dude to buy one of those.

I just test drove a civic and a civic hybrid.
the monthly cost of the civic hybrid is A LOT...
with insurance, I'm looking at over $400/mo.
but it's a "sweet ride" doods.

I can't find any carollas to drive... but I'm going to stop at saturn to see what they have. carina and I are going back to the honda place tonight.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Apr 6,2005 1:13pm
dont buy a saturn no matter what.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2005 1:20pm
your opinion is now meaningless
since my current saturn was $5K, I put 185K+ miles on it myself and only put in $1K worth of work over 5 years.

that's over 30 miles per dollar.

toggletoggle post by timma nli at Apr 6,2005 1:20pm
aaron, i'm begging you with all of my being...for the safety of yourself and all those you love, please don't even entertain the idea of buying a saturn. i know 4 or 5 people that have (or had) them and they are the definition of shit box. the entire body is made of "dent resistant" PLASTIC...its like a rubbermaid on wheels. gas mileage yes, but hit a twig in the road going 3 miles and hour and you'll be sliding down the road on the frame of your seat wondering what the hell just happened.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Apr 6,2005 1:23pm
seriously....they suck huge balls.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Apr 6,2005 1:27pm
if my opinion is meaningless...then y are you asking peoples opinions....just the ones you wanna hear?
Im glad you had such good luck with your saturn, but consider yourself graced with good luck, because Ive known 6 different people with saturns, and they ALL had probs. Like big probs, not windshelid wipers. Like trannies, motor mounts, linkage...stuff llike that.

and....gas mileage they adverstise is no where near what u actually get.
Especially in new england.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2005 1:44pm
what years were these saturns?
my guy's a 95. it seems like after 96, they sucked balls.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Apr 6,2005 1:48pm
Im pretty sure they were all after 97 with one exception, and that was a 96. But the 96 was the one that needed a new tranny after 55k

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2005 1:57pm
yeah, that's why I didn't want to get a newer saturn. they replaced the plastic bodies with metal... replaced the 1.7l SOHC engine with a 1.9l DOHC turning the 40 mpg to 27-32 mpg.
when I first got my saturn it would do 41mpg and now with 225K on it does 33 in the winter 35 in the summer.

toggletoggle post by Scoracrasia   at Apr 6,2005 1:58pm
I decided on my next ride. I am getting a 2005 Honda Pilot. Killer vehicle and I need the room and the towing capacity.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2005 1:59pm
ps: a civic will be my first non-US car
94-98 Ford Tempo 85 model 2DR
98-00 Buick Regal 77 2DR
00-05 Saturn SL1 94 4DR

all american.

toggletoggle post by humanbonedeathmachine at Apr 6,2005 3:28pm
im buying myself a 1990 dodge ramcharger next week, much like the one i have now, and while i still am driving my current driver, i'll be on the hunt for a 5.9L cummins turbo diesel engine to drop in. i can then do a biodiesel project with that. they get about 18mpg hwy, around 250 horsepwr, and it'll smell like french fries or hash browns when i run it on the bio fuel. its really not that hard to make biodiesel and the benifits will be great when the petrol industry crashes and im still blowing by assholes on bikes and battery cars in a full size beast

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2005 4:50pm
I'm almost 100% on the civic hybrid.

I would look into a bio-deisel WV, but only gay guys drive them.

toggletoggle post by humanbonedeathmachine at Apr 6,2005 5:03pm
yeah, i like the concept of biodiesel, but i hear ya on the gay guys thing (so a civic is less gay?). i also like to go faster than 60 so no VW's for me.

toggletoggle post by humanbonedeathmachine at Apr 6,2005 10:38pm
is there any other diesel owners here? we should start a biodiesel club/collective. we can scour new england for all its grease so we will own it all. so only RTTP bands with diesel vehicles will still be active here once the petroleum industry bites it

toggletoggle post by DEATH2ALL  at Apr 7,2005 1:24am
You get that 5.9 Cummins and you can bring that 250hp to 500+hp fairly cheap.

Nice you can put a red R on that civic and get 30 extra horsepower, if you bought the corolla the R would only get you like 10 hp.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Apr 7,2005 11:57am
you need the official rttp monster truck, to help ruin hardcore shows, you can drive right through the doors, i bet thats more distracting than a flash

toggletoggle post by BobNOMAAMRooney nli at Apr 7,2005 11:59am
Then you could repair hardcore by revving the engine to tune of a hatebreed breakdown

well civic hibrid is good gas milage but battery only has a 8 or so year warranty, and by that time the depreciation and the battery's tendancy to self destruct shortly after will cause you to be without a vehicle because it would be more expensive to replace the battery than the car almost, thats the only thing honda hasnt really got down yet. not saying go for the carolla but just sumthing to think about
