i just finished kurt vonnegut "welcome to the monkey house" and im working on some borges. my all-time favorite is still Danielewski's House of Leaves. Can anything top that?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 10,2004 1:15pm
did you read other vonnegut like breakfast of champions or cat's cradle?
I don't know danielewski.. but if you like vonnegut, try tim robbins. the book still life with woodpecker or half asleep in frog pjs, whatever you do stay away from even cowgirls get the blues.. that book sucked so bad.

oh and the davinci code sucks for the first 50-70 pages and then after that rocks. it starts moving very fast.

toggletoggle post by christraper at Sep 10,2004 1:16pm

toggletoggle post by swamplorddvm  at Sep 10,2004 2:15pm
I usually don't read actual books. I read mostly MAD mag (the best) and Discover mag, National geographic and the back of the coco puffs box.

toggletoggle post by El Justin at Sep 10,2004 2:20pm
angels and demons (davinci code guy) rules... really interesting theories on science and religion

If you like hitchhikers guide check out a book called Red Dwarf. Fuckin hilarious!!!! I forget who wrote it but if you go to a barnes and gnoble or borders theyll find it for you in the scifi section. Definitely worth checking out. Its way funnier than hitchhikers!

Apocalypse Culture Vol. 1 + 2

toggletoggle post by lady_czerach  at Sep 10,2004 5:20pm
anything written by Neil Gaiman. I'm just finishing up American Gods and I don't want it to end! Neverwhere is a good one to start with, though.

toggletoggle post by BornSoVile   at Sep 10,2004 6:06pm
last two books I read were
Dude, Where's My Country - Michael Moore
Beyond Good and Evil - Nietzsche

Moore's new book was really really good.

toggletoggle post by MarkKevorkian  at Sep 10,2004 6:41pm
Michael Moore is a self important, bloated, pinko, socialist.

toggletoggle post by BornSoVile   at Sep 10,2004 6:45pm
That's why I like him.

toggletoggle post by MarkKevorkian  at Sep 10,2004 6:54pm
Fair enough. Carry on

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Sep 10,2004 8:54pm
my friend had a book called "you are worthless", which seemed pretty interesting from what i read of it.

I enjoyed reading The House of Leaves. The way the format ties in with the story was clever but some of it seems a little gimmicky in retrospect. I know that he had a collection of letters from the book published but he hasn't done anything else to my knowledge. The last book I finished was "The Harlot by the Side of the Road" by Kirsch. I don't normally like detective/mystery novels but I've been enjoying Black Dahlia by James Ellroy.

"A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey is actually rather good.
As said before, anything by Gaiman is awesome.
