New site? Maybe some day.
First beer has been opened.
Sam Adams Boston Lager, but thinking bout Pabst Blue Ribbon. |
I almost opened a beer when I woke up |
I waited an hour watched the Phantom Gourmet, then opened up one of those bad boys. |
why don't you guys open a decent beer? Lagunitas, Russian River, Troegs, Dogfish Head, Berkshire Brewing, 21st Amendment, Three Floyds, Cigar City, The Bruery, Unibroue, Brooklyn, Deschutes, Lord Hobo, etc etc and on and on. And you're opening Sammy and PBR? c'mon man. |
I am sorry I do not drink ethnic beer. |
Your all fags who caught the craft beer wave when it became hip and cool. |

Your all fags who caught the craft beer wave when it became hip and cool. |
We are also the same guys who caught the proper grammar wave before "you're" became "your". |
bumped, and the pregaming begins for the UFC tonight in Boston. |

Subjective and I am done with my world tour of beer tasting, I have drank a lot of crap beer, as well as good beer, this point in my life I know what I like and stick to it. |

I'm pretty sure Cigar City doesn't distribute in new england, which is why my carry-on gets checked each time I fly back from Florida. |
you are correct. though certain bottle shops, if you have rapport, can sneak in a pack here and there through their distributor(s). i got Hunahpu's Imperial Stout delivered to MA through this method before. really really good stout.
bumped for the day drinking |
rebumped for mutual day drinking, having started at 1pm.
on tap today (so to speak) is Paulaner Salvator Doppel Bock, Kulmbacher Reichelbrau Eisbock, and Ye Olde Wild Turkey 101.
time for baseball. |
The whiskey is kicking in now, and I need to get a bottle of the Wild Turkey Rare Breed, and then try that Pig Nose something whiskey. |
rare breed is absolutely my #1 premium-ish bottle. the top tier of whiskey championship for me (that I can afford) are Rare Breed, Wild Turkey 101, and Knob Creek. I know bookers is really good and I've had it several times, but the price tag does not equate to me wanting to ever purchase one solo. |
when i'm on skid row (get paid bi-weekly) i resort to the old bottom shelve standbys of Old Crow Reserve, Evan Williams, or Canadian Club. |
Don't forget Ancient Age if they still make it. |
bumped for the second beer. |
Skipped the beer, went straight for the Bloodies. |
just cracked a boddingtons pub ale. yuengling lord chesterfield ale later. nite of cheap beer. dont get paid this week. |
Boddingtons Pub Ale is a good drink, went out with my boss tonight after work, ate spicy chicken flat bread pizza, and enjoyed some beers, her some sort of Goose Ale, me the same boring Sam Adams Boston Lager. |
Does she want to bang me, yes, but doing the slow build... |
1) evan williams on the rocks 2) berkshire brewing imperial steel rail 3) blowing off steam from every part store in a 2-city area not having a standard SAE lug wrench on the shelf. |
Boulevard Tripel Julep, a 12% belgian infused with mint |
It was also oak aged so all combined, it tasted like licorice more than anything. Interesting but wouldn't get it again. |
Old Rasputin Stout... Not bad if you like stout beers. |
old rasputin is a classic. the tripel julep sounds interesting, but my tastes for tripels have faded over time. i still quaff a la fin du monde on occasion, however. |
First beer has been opened.

Why, oh why did you wait ten days to have your first beer of 2016? |

Technicality as I was drinking well into the new year 2016, just didn't post until the 10th, if the glove don't fit you must acquit. |
What do you expect from a MotleyGrue thread? Set you expectation phasers to low. |
bumped, first beer, and no care for the temp name change of Budweiser to America. |
#1 today -Cisco whale's tale pale ale |
#1 today -Cisco whale's tale pale ale |
That any good? |
since you don't seem to be too picky on beers and enjoy the buds and so forth, i think you might like it. it's kinda like a sam boston lager in taste with a bit less of that caramel-flavor and some barely noticeable hops.
tl;dr it's a balanced beer that doesn't overwhelm on anything. give it a shot. |
#2 today is newcastle brown which i generally enjoy quaffing on a sunday afternoon, but since the cisco i had was the last of a sixer, i'm finding myself wishing i had more. |
newcastle is a decent beer, and I always enjoy a kind bud. |
kind bud has been on my menu today, like most days. |
second beer! Today is Dos Equis with a lime, and I am armed to the teeth with alcohol. I already made the mistake of going stoned to the butcher shop........prepping to start grilling. |
absolutely. here i am armed with skirt steak, chicken breasts, and all the necessary items for tacos (corn tortillas). 18pk miller high life, 6pk lagunitas lucky 13, pint of evan williams, and a half ounce of sativa. weather isn't too bad. can't complain. |
When I get home tomorrow.... luchad or entity fuego 2016 |
Buzzing pretty strong right now, one more beer then the whiskey begins, I bought cherry bitters but eeeeeeehhhhmmmmmmeeeeehhhhh, and I still have Game of Thrones and Preacher to watch. |
UFC fight night + lagunitas lucky 13, evan williams, van gogh blue vodka mixed drink, and a miller high life. mulched my garden between the sox game and ufc. was hilarious to the passerby's i'm sure. |
had like 2 heinekens too |
UFC was ok tonight, not great but watchable while listening to music. I didn't know Preacher was a rerun so that helps. I have never tried Evan Williams, or Van Gogh Vodka, done with Miller High Life or Genuine Draft, ugh bleh. |
Sixpoint "The Crisp" pilsner to start the weekend |
Jack n Coke with some kind smoke over here. |
Oculto beer, oh man that was disgusting |
stony creek big cranky double ipa. probably a jacks abbey copper legend later. |
Got to see someone probably die by plowing car into an overpass. Need a beer. |
uno today is Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. also in house Ommegang Great Beyond, Narragansett Summer Citra, and Stone Mocha IPA.
today will end with headache |

update- stone mocha IPA is an absolute drain pour. disgusting. worse than samuel smiths organic chocolate stout. i wind up with about 3 drain pours a year and this one definitely fits into the genre. don't do it. |
I still have 5 artsy type beers I have not drank, thinking of just pouring them down the drain. |
depending on what they are, you very well could be right. care to share the overly-long names of them? chances are i've had them in the past.
*edit- if you don't drink them, add them to slow cooker chili/stew or use them to braise vegetables or proteins. |
Bent Water Jolene Heartbustin Porter
Dark Horse Bourbon Barrel Aged Scotty Karate Scotch Ale
Monk's Care Flemish Sour Ale
Clown Shoes Clementine White Ale
Stone Delicious IPA India Pale Ale (probably the most normal one outta the bunch) |
familiar with several.
clown shoes white ale is good. but it also makes a great tenderizer/marinade base for chicken breast/thighs.
flemish sour ale is an acquired taste. i like that particular one but it's almost like a sour wine.
stone delicious IPA is just that...normal ipa. nothing to write home about.
dark horse scotch ale is perfect for beef/cottage stew in the slow cooker.
bent water porter i have no idea about but porters are always good as a steak marinade.
if you don't choose to drink them, you can put them to use in the above applications with stellar results if you aren't a vegetarian.
that being said, there's no beer on that list that i've had personally that i would say outright sucks.
i'm going back to drinking my gansett summer ales now. cheers. |
anyone like the Treehouse stuff? went for hte first time and came back with a few growlers and various cans. |

Sap, Green, and Good Morning I've had. liked em. |
shared a bottle of Sap, that was pretty good. Eureka is a great beer for 4.1%. |

Sam Adams Octoberfest...Damn this shit makes me fart like an animal! |
Much like heaving breasts in all their glory, October Beers have fallen upon us. |
had many octoberfests today, drunk. |
I know, I know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but......................I still bought a 12 pack of Shipyard Pumpkinhead beer. No worries I will get over it soon and move on to something else. |
jack's abby copper legend in cans = 9=8.9/10 would drink again |
copper legend is quite good. best i've had is BBC Oktoberfest but haven't seen it yet this year. just had the 2016 one-time-brewed edition of the Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest and it's probably the best beer I've had this year in general so far. The Ayinger o-fest will always be the best to me however. |
i have been wondering where the BBC OF is... local guy has not had anything. |
i have been wondering where the BBC OF is... local guy has not had anything. |
yeah wtf? i know they usually release their stuff on time as opposed to other breweries who release summer stuff in fucking april and fall stuff in july, but still.
according to their twitter, as their website appears to have disappeared, someone cracked a BBC OF on august 23 and posted about it so it's gotta be out there. |
update- was inspired to head down the street to see if by chance they have it in stock. there it was. dude at the counter said they put it out yesterday. so keep looking i guess. |
My first real beer was a bass ale while drinking it with Mike from Hirudenia and also old man nut brown ale. My father bought it for me when I was 19 or 20 |
And now you're drinking by yourself you worthless faggot!!! |
Got the BBCs, 9/10 best USA Oktoberfest |
Got the BBCs, 9/10 best USA Oktoberfest |
i would agree honestly. the sierra nevada is second in line to me now. only thing sierra has over the BBC is it's less filling. |
feel like a tryhawwd cause I'm posting too often but its the internet and most of you are likely as bored as i.
first beer tonight was something i picked up relatively cheaply that i have never heard of before. Battle Road 1775 Tavern Ale from MA. As an avid fan of things such as American history and The Patriot starring Mel Gibson, I gave in.
Touted as a rustic ale, it's supposed to hark back to the colonial times or something of that nature. Does anyone else picture the Fallout 4 atmosphere when they think of MA history now besides me?
beer rules. this post is tl;dr |
I was scolded about too much posting in my own thread by the RTTP vets since I am an overnighter and my dick is not bro, but honestly fuck them, as these are new times, viva la Nuevo RTTP since all the OG posters went troll.
With that being said I am still Shipyarding it up with the Pumpkinheads and not totally enjoying it, need to try something different and new. |
Pumpkinheads are decent. Saranac German Roots mixed 12 pack is a good value. 1488 etc etc |
Where do you people find all these different beers? Usually wherever I go its all the same bullshit. Today I picked up Sam Adams 22 pound pumpkin and gonna give that the old college try. |
if you provide a relative metropolitan area (boston/prov/worcester, etc), i can likely suggest a place nearby where you'll be overwhelmed by choices. |
actually fuck that. giving out even that level of info is sketchy these days. i'll put together a list of shops tomorrow so that anyone else who comes by and sees it will know some spots to check out. |
All I am motherfucking saying is that I want some good Asian/Indian food to eat with these badass beers, fuck I am hungry for some good food with some good beer. |
21st Amendment Toaster Pastry |
Totally being a suave bastard yesterday and buying my 12 pack in said grocery store, I saw a black haired amazon checking out customers in the next register, she looked at me twice and smiled (I got laid). |

get outta here. really? that reads like every kids version of how things happen IRL (which we learned from thematic pornography) |
oh also, congratulations. cause that rules if real. |
albeit a bit early, o(ct)(kt)oberfests are out now. have some Sam Adams and Leftys lined up. was hoping for ayinger but no luck. |
I bought 3 beers yesterday. Speedway stout is my favorite! |
I saw a stack of southern tier pumpkin... Ugh... |
too early. and oktoberfests have just begun rolling out to the shelves and that in and of itself is already too early. I buy 1 southern tier pumking 22 per year for halloween and thats it. |
Had some copper legends, pretty good beer. Would run over an antifa for one. |
also speedway stout is great. you ever try the Labryinth Black Ale from Uinta's crooked line series? one of the best IRS/double stouts imo

had it. it was ok. the heaviness was appreciated. |
I bought a wicked pricy speedway in a can, but mckinnons had them in a bottle that was bigger than a bomber. that was very price worthy for 13%. |
Had a beer yesterday before the boxing match.
Know that cereal Special K that has the dehydrated strawberries in it? This literally tasted like a liquid version of it. Was awesome.
White Birch Brewing Small Batch Ale Strawberry Berliner Weisse.

has anyone seen this around? no moar oktoberfest from bbc? http://www.berkshire-brewing.com/beers/lifeonmarzen/
any good pumpkin ales that don't taste shipyard?
the new tree house HQ is nice, past few weeks i was in and out in 5 mins with full allotment
god bless you abundantly!

I can answer this. A year or two ago, BBC underwent a gradual rebranding of some of their offerings and packaging. For instance- Berkshire Ale became "Hoosac Tunnel Amber Ale"; BBC Maibock became "Slue's Maibock Lager". Other beers like draymans porter and steel rail stayed the same but with updated labelling. I too was dismayed to see no Oktoberfest on the shelves because Imo it's the best domestic Oktoberfest. Good heavy body and with a creaminess most okt lagers didn't possess. They do however have BBC "Life On Märzen" out on shelves. A Märzen is a different term for Oktoberfest (obviously) so I bought one to try it. It's similar but really not. Doesn't have the dead leaves taste and the creamy body. My guess is that they changed their recipe a bit and rebranded it. It's not nearly as good.
tl;dr Oktoberfest became "Life On Märzen" and there's something different about it which makes it not as good.
As far as pumpkin beers that don't taste like synthetic bullshit,
Pumpkin Imperial Spruce Stout by Rock Art Brewing
Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout by Cape Ann Brewing
The Great Pumpkin by Elysian Brewing
Barrel-Aged Xibalba ( ) by Wicked Weed Brewing
Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin by Cigar City (good luck finding it) |
Southern Tier Warlock pumpkin stout was alright this year too.
I know a lot of people hate the Pumking (on an off note), but I'm a fan. only 1 per year though. It's too cloying for more. |
Found Life On Marzen, will buy more. |
BUMP
there are a lot of mediocre breweries popping up around NE lately. |
BUMP

yeah. there really fucking are. when i go to the store now, i'm overwhelmed by choices i have never heard of from all over new england. when i take a risk, i'm satisfied maybe 30% of the time. in addition, now that the craft scene has blown up even larger, there's a ton of outdated IPA/DIPA bottles/cans on the shelves because of how much selection there is and the clerks/managers don't care to police it. i got burned on old IPA's a couple times before implementing the #1 new rule which is check the born-on date before even considering anything.
and breweries- for the love of god, stop it with the "new england style" hazy IPA's. shit's outplayed already. (p.s. Fort Hill fresh pick + jigsaw jazz are the best of that style that i've tried) |
yes, even the classic townie packies nearby are starting to have dedicated coolers for IPAs. the prices are insane and the quality is suspect on a lot of these.
trillium's PM Dawn coffee stout = |

been wanting to try trillium for awhile. my immediate area doesn't appear to have any, though i haven't tried provisions in northampton or whole foods in hadley. maybe i'm too far west.
anyone try treehouse? i only tried the sierra nevada/tree collab. was OK but not mind blowing. i heard tell that every weekend, dudes in horn rimmed glasses line up to buy beer at treehouse. |
yes, the beers are pretty good but the tree house experience is totally ripped from the pages of Stuff White People Like:
bearded guys in glasses & 5 panel hats
girlfriend in tow on iphone texting the whole time
annoyign dog wearing a coat and dog shoes
lots of intense NPR talk show type discussions

southern tier pumking is already in stock. crazy.
picked up 2 of them and they're now in some weird bottle between a bomber and a pint. way better than in past years but still not much pumpkin flavor.
grabbed a lefty's oktoberfest and a sixer of Sierra Nevadas 2018 Oktoberfest collaboration. all was decent.
Ayinger Oktoberfest rules as always. |
