the house system sucks. they got some nice speakers and the amps to push them but no main board realy from what ive been able to tell, they are mostly setup for dj's to plug in and play.

exactly, the main board looks like a FisherPrice playset.

i have a 16 channel mackie mixing board.......about 15 mics..............compressors.......etc.

i do recording at home and have fancied the idea of doing live sound............................

Bottom line is the room isn't set up for live bands, it's set upo for DJs as you said. We'll have the same basic vocal PA, maybe more powerful (I don't remember if they poweramp we used or another one I have here has more power) and we'll probably run just the kick through their house system unless it makes things too noisy.

As with most shows, it'll sound as good as the bands' gear sounds. If more people show up the room won't be as much of a factor.

It did sound quite good at the front of the balcony right in front of the stage. Sit there next time!

ha! can i play soundguy? that might be fun. i cant possibly do any worse than the bodies show although it did get better as the night went on......i know, i know, im a dickhead.

yes what is the wattage of the PA head? and what are those jbls rated for? im sure the house system can be used/run off of my mixing board but it may not be needed. with a compressor on the FOH mix it should increase headroom and lower distortion. i also have a pair of yamaha sm12e floor monitors 250 program 500 peak and a 600 watt(300 L&R) qsc amp. and your drummer has double bass i have 2 different kick mics i assume you have 2 of the same? i have 2 sets of tom mics 3 each so anyone with more than 3 toms would need a bunch of eq on the "odd" mics. the cymbals should be fine un-mic'd. they where all i could hear of asscendency last time. i have mics i use for overheads that would sounds sweet on the guitars as well as some "studio" mics (condensors) that i probably wouldnt want to bring to a live situation. i might need access to a few more dynamic mics.

any info on what i have to work with would be great since im not set up for live sound but i would love to invest in a 3000 watt rig someday btw i used to work for EAW. http://www.eaw.com/ for 2 years i built these things and i hung out with all the engineers and talked about what is involved and how to go about doing "proaudio". i have never done live sound besides shitty backyard shows on pa systems like yours and a dj and mc at some party. but given the opportunity with the proper equipment i think i could do a good job.

oh and i have a 24 track in the same rack as the mixing board so if you want a copy of the whole live show in 2 track stereo mix or track by track to remix later it can be done very easily. hell if someone brings a laptop with a cd burner you can leave the show with a copy.

actualy i was serious about wanting to do sound for a show. it would be a fun learning expirience and a way to help the local metal scene by participating. but either way. i could just sit at home too like your favortite type of metalhead.

Given the proper equipment I could do a hell of a job, we just don't have that kind of equipment at our availability. I do live sound fairly often at places made for live sound, fact is Marque isn't set up for live bands and it's hard to compensate for that with a PA that is barely as loud as the amps. At the time we were a little too frustrated and annoyed by last minute cancellations and whatnot and we just wanted to play and be done with it.

Josh, if you're really up for it, shoot me an email about what else you've got to use and what you'd like to do. Like I said, I do live fairly often so I've got a decent idea of what to do there with a more adequate system.

So...this show is a good example of how gay the metal scene is. These touring bands are all fucking unbelievable...but only about 20 people will show up. Darn the metal scene...

I'm going to try to make it, I really want to but we're booking a show the same night in Providence, not that they need me to handle it. But I'm going to feel like crap like at the Inhume show (we were booking a show as well that night), so I don't fucking know what I'm going to do. I guess I will decide the very same day.

terrence dont take this as me being an asshole but what kind of promotion in the worcester area are you doing for the show? i mean for the bodies in the gears show RttP was the ONLY place i heard about it.

not that there is a good metal scene in worcester i mean serioulsy maybe 5 people at that show where from worcester.

several times on this board people mention about going to bombshelter or something for CC and 20 people show up then the next week it is sold out for blood for blood.

the "big name" metal shows in worcester do realy well at the palladium. IE Armon Armarth, BDM, in flames etc. sorry to say but most of these kids dont seem to give a flying fuck about local or super underground obscure metal bands with names that cannot be read or understood.

i think the biggest problem with the extreme metal scene is there are no fans. everyone at a show is in a band. only people in underground metal bands listen to undeground metal bands for the most part.....fact of life. and as you are well aware most of these fans/musicians are just jelous pricks who despise other bands for getting the show they should be on so they sit home and bitch on the internet and dont go to shows.

as much as i may root for the underdog you might never win terrence. so keep doing it for yourself and no one else and if they come good if not who cares as long as you have fun.

No one gives metal a chance thats the reason why. Ive talked to a millon hardcore kids who bash metal, but then when you play them a cd they are like " holy shit this is sick". When kids understand you can move to more then just an open E JUD JUD then poeple will come to metal shows. Its unfortunate because years ago brutal music was big and people showed up to shows everywhere. Hell I remember seeing Eternal suffering in a YMCA, place was pretty packed. When people start realizing that extreme music isnt bury your dead or on broken wings then kids will show up to good shows. Untill then we need to support it as much as possible and just dont give up. Bringing music out to others takes effort. If you look at it there have been better shows recently mostly due to terences booking. Which is a step further for metal in my oppinon.

alot of places i thought would be cool with flyers like the tattoo and piercing places are douche bags about hanging flyers they put them up and rip em down as soon as you leave.

there are several small indie record stores, al-bums, jellies, and a few more i cant name this second--newbury comics(shewsbury)
skate shops like concrete wave and eastern border
music stores like kurlan music and union music and the music mall
the rad palladium and marquee (just go on the mayhem convention/suffocation show)
colleges are worth a try but those kids suck

worcester is just not a metal city or/and i am out of touch since i dont go to tons of shows and im not a "metal or hardcore scenester" most of my friends dont listen to metal so when i went to bodies in the gears of the apparatus everyone went.......who? what? and then they wonder why i go to shows alone which is realy boring. if i ever got off my ass to look for a job id hang some up for you while i was out.

oh and for the record the worcester kids like hardcore bands that spell their names in varsity letters and will never even know who is on the bill in those fonts.

i think if you want to push metal in worcester you need to do it under the guise of a metal core show

a lineup like that would do realy well integrating metal bands with metal-core bands and then slowly drop band like acacia strain and put on bands like asendency or FOD......from what i heard of pillory i think they would do good in worcester after they get known a little bit more. and this is not to say anything bad about your lineup i just dont know if alot of people around here are into it. its not the shows fault it is the scene and as i suggested it will not change over night but with the right bands on board alot more people will pay attention.....for the 1000th time exploit bands to get noticed then ditch em and there is nothing wrong with that cause they got their exposure too. if you want to convert them you need a band they will come see first. just my honest opinion but as i said im out of touch so i may be wrong

alright i took the time to read this whole thread so im going to reply. a few quick notes....week night shows suck...they usually never have a good draw (yes even at the palladium)... because not everyone is 16 and off for the summer... sure it sucks to get old and have responsibilities and having to get up in the morning for work. i lived in worcester for 5 years, and for the past 2 years i have lived 10 minutes outside of worcester. i do go to local shows but not as many as i would like. its not because people in worcester are lazy and dont support local metal as someone states... its because lack of advertising. i mean sure i can come here.. but i dont always get a chance to. as someone who has handed out flyers and had to sweep them up off the ground... hardly anyone reads flyers when they leave shows.... whatever happened to people advertising shows on metalupdate? or putting up flyers around places (such as stores or around town)?? i was in Toronto reccently and you couldnt find a pole anywhere around that didnt have flyers advertising shows.
and also its about getting your name and sound out there. too many people rely solely on the net. you know how i got into Bane of Existence? Jim gave me a tape. You know how i first heard Acephalus? the guys from the band were at the show and talked up their band. Blistered Earth? yup members of the band talked it up.

if you dont actively go out and tell people about your band... why should you expect people to put in effort to find out about you? it works both ways.... and sure i want to check out new bands... but its like finding a needle in a haystack.

give out promos ...talk up your band and your shows... and let your art be heard.

that was a cool post. Ascendancy is always at shows passing out flyers, talking our shit up, passing out promos. we've played many shows doing the same process over and over as well. That's how I came to know about them! the bottom line is that metal is a tough business. nowadays kids really arn't taking a interest in undergound music, for the most part they're eating up everything on aaf and whatnot, which is fine I guess. It's good to see harder faster rolling pretty good, but unfortunately it's hard for local unsigned bands like us and even signed bands who are based on underground labels to be acknowledged by a large masses of people. I think if anything we're entering a scary period for metal, nonetheless a very critical one too. Metalcore is blowing up bigger and faster than anyone really anticipated. hopefully kids will stray from the trend seeking something heavier, faster, darker, more extreme. fucking nasty habits isn't really a death metal show anymore, wtf! I tell Rev this to much, but he's the only bastard left around these parts that takes a considerable interest in a scene that struggles to survive on a monthly basis.
so anyways, it's a bummer the show is on a monday night but what can you do, the tour stops here on monday, and that's the way the tour is. it shouldn't be a tradegy that it's not going to the palladium, for one it's right down the street from the joint and 2 this is something that you'll never be able to see at the palladium! fuck, it sucks people don't realize how good things are going around New England right now. there's a show every week you can go to. sometime there are two pissah shows in the same night! oh well, there's nothing glamorous about death metal. it's fucking war. it's a way of life. some days it sucks and some days it rules. but i always feel priviliged knowing that I can go to a show every week. i wish this could be like toronto or montreal or fucking europe but it's not. shows like this and bands that you'll find on this site are a testament to will of a folk who are dedicated and truely hell bent to assembling and preserving a scene that can command respect like the ones we've revered in our lives. all I can say is check out this show and see some sick bands that you might have not heard yet and probably won't see around here again for awhile. the scene can either kick ass or suck balls, it depends on how you want to look at it.
