and I should definitely get stitches.

I grabbed it right away with my right hand and then wrapped the fuck out of it with gauze and gauze tape and barely lost a drop of blood despite the fact that it was DEEP AS HELL. I just reacted so fucking quickly.

I'm not sure if I even need to go get stitches now because the wrap job I did is holding it together but I also dont want to risk never being about to "play"
guitar again.

I sure as shit wont be able to grip the neck with any power until it heals.

maybe it's appendicitis?

toggletoggle post by DukeManjunk at Mar 20,2012 10:30am
superglue. seriously. it'll burn like hell but its cheaper than stitches.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 20,2012 10:30am
he's right.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 10:33am
this shit is deep. like if I un-wrap it and give it more than like 3 seconds to hang out, its gonna spit blood.

toggletoggle post by DukeManjunk at Mar 20,2012 10:34am
superglue and re-wrap, or pinch it off before the cut to atleast slowdown the bleeding then apply superglue...and re-wrap.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 20,2012 10:34am
is it a situation where you should have been wearing gloves? if not, just get stitches. you'll get the rest of the day off. if you weren't taking proper precautions, don't tell anyone.

SPITTING BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
FROM A LACERATED THUMB

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 20,2012 10:42am
oh yeah then go get stitches. i cut my finger like that once at a job where i should have been wearing Kevlar gloves, so i didn't tell anyone, it took forever to heal.

toggletoggle post by DukeManjunk at Mar 20,2012 10:44am
i used to work with sheet metal, and they expected us to wear those kevlar gloves....but since i'm a welder and you cant wear the kevlar gloves while welding and welding gloves are too big/bulky for any type of manual dexterity i just never wore any gloves unless i was actively welding.....at the end of my first week i counted 38 cuts on my hands. shit was gnarly

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 10:47am
we're not expected to wear gloves. I've been doing this kind of work for years and never cut myself. It was kind of a freak accident I just dont feel like going to the hospital. Its such a procedure/pain in the ass.

Plus regardless of my insurance, I'll end up paying for it.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 20,2012 10:48am
nah, that's work related. a blade broke, fuck paying for it.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 10:55am
my job is a joke. I'd never get them to pay for it.

toggletoggle post by Blood Reign at Mar 20,2012 11:07am

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 11:15am

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 11:20am
5%? for the NEH? what a shite discount.

I prefer my Gospel of the Horns back patch anyway.

I like grew up in the Boston Childrens Hopsital. Only having Kartageners Synrome is real.

toggletoggle post by nekronaut  at Mar 20,2012 11:20am

You have to ask them.for drugs, say the pain is intense. You get drugs.

SUPERGLUE

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 11:27am
ok ok

so I'm gonna give it like 24-48 hours to "heal" then superglue the gash.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 11:27am
maybe I should sew a Moonblood patch onto it.

toggletoggle post by nekronaut  at Mar 20,2012 11:28am
SUPER PILLS.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Mar 20,2012 11:33am
I cut my thumb nearly to the bone last summer and I superglued it until it stopped bleeding. There was a blood/superglue bubble which fell off after a few hours, and I applied superglue again. It IS safe, they used to use it in the Vietnam war for not only external but also internal wounds like sealing up a punctured liver. Fuck going in for stitches.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Mar 20,2012 11:39am
does it heal ok? my only concern is it not healing properly and keeping me from playing guitar/gripping the neck comfortably.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Mar 20,2012 11:43am
heals better than anything else as long as you apply it in the right amount. It will feel a little weird if you're not used to it, like a numb/condom feeling. I superglued my guitarist's hand up last practice and he couldn't believe how good it healed up. He was able to play after that no problem.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Mar 20,2012 11:45am
A guitar player in a band I was in a while ago worked construction and used super glue for any cuts he got, and that didn't hinder his guitar playing at all from what I know.

In fact, I'm willing to bet he has more super glue than skin at this point lol.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 20,2012 11:50am
Ok, dude...take it from a former Marine and ___. Keep pressure on it and get it looked at. The only issue with superglue (and it DOES work, depending on the depth of the wound), is that you end up glueing bacteria INSIDE of the wound....BAD IDEA. It may need some serious debriding to get rid of any tissue that is already dead, and/or dying. Once this is done, and only when it's been done, can the wound be sutured and/or glued properly. You don't want to lose the thumb permanently...have it done right. Remember, you get what you pay for.

That's my best advice dude.

Don't take a chance on a body part if you want to keep it.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 20,2012 11:52am
And don't take medical advice from anyone that voted for Obama....that might be even better advice yet.

I dont plan on unwrapping it for at least 24 hours because I know it'll just gush. SO NO PICS...yet.

Plenty of pressure, my thumb was blue I had it wrapped so tight at first but it's since loosened up a bit because I'm still working with it.

When Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah guitarist) did carpentry, he severed his entire index finger off but had it surgically reattached. The drummer, Tomas Haake got his hand mangled in a piece of machinery while on the job. Point of this cool story? Both lived and saw their musical careers prosper. You'll be fine.

Sorry dude, not trying to be Gr1m or Kvlt....just telling it like it is. Just be careful....it's a digit dude...a part of your body. If the cut/laceration is that deep, get it fucking looked at. I am no Doctor for sure....I watch Mototraining regularly. Neither are all of the self-proclaimed scholars on this site that think that fluency in their own language makes them smarter than the rest of us. Just take care of yourself. Are you gonna trust people that sit around and post memes all day with your health? I think not dude. Do whatever you want but if you get too worried, just hit the doc's office, it can't possibly hurt anything but your wallet....and you are more important than that. Not trying to be Gr1m....You just sounded pretty freaked out, and nothing assures the 'freaked out' like a professional opinion does.
