They're everywhere now. Greasy, but phenominal burgers and fries. Cheeseburger with jalepenos and hot sauce and a side of cajun fries or gtfo.
Best way to describe the burgers are like Wendys burgers but much better quality

backed. The fries still taste like potatoes and the burgers leave no doubt that you're actually eating beef. I prefer their burgers over a lot of non-fast food restaurants.

I just find yuppie chains annoying. It's like Target, just as evil as Wal Mart, but protected from criticism because the same shit costs more and middle class white people shop there. On principle I don't care for it. However, I've tried a burger and fries from 5 guys, it's true they are better than any other chain I've been to. That said they weren't spectacular, and I'll stick to the local places.

I went to Five Guys a couple times down in Durham when I lived down that way and was thoroughly unimpressed. Perhaps it was because it was the one in the mall, perhaps it was because NC has better food overall than up here in that department, I dunno. But I've been to the ones up here in both Mystic and Warwick and thought they were great.

Andy's is awesome, I would support there being one of those up here 100%. I would just make sure to take it to go... a lot of people don't realize that if you sit down and eat there, it's a tipping joint. My ex used to work as a server at one of those and supposedly it's the closest thing to legal slave labor there is at a place of employment.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Jul 1,2011 2:34pm
I tipped a dude that worked there $5 for making me the most amazing frozen custard on the planet. That place is out of fucking bounds, regardless of employee relations.

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Jul 1,2011 2:45pm
Yeah exactly... it has nothing to do with how management treats their employees, it just has to do with the fact that most customers who go in there are morons who don't understand the servers are getting paid the wages of a regular sit down restaurant person in their paychecks just because the place has a diner look to it.

I could go for a shrimp burger now... DAMN YOU

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Jul 1,2011 2:47pm

Easy way to grill a perfect burger every time. I've got the shit down:

-Form burger patties, or use the pre-pressed ones in the fresh meat case. If you form them, don't make them too huge. If you want more, just eat 2. 85-15 beef or gtfo.
-Make a "well" in the middle and fill well with Worcestershire.
-Cover with fresh ground pepper and put back in fridge. Fuckers should be cold when they hit the grill, or else the fat cooks out before the burger is done and bye-bye flavor.
-Get grill very hot.
-Get burgers and sprinkle with salt just before they're ready to go on
-Oil grill and apply burgers.
-About 2 minutes 1st side and flip.
-Add cheese about 2minutes in on 2nd side
-Cook for about 30 seconds more and take em off
-Let em stand (important)
-Toast buns
-Apply delicious vegetables and condiments and enjoy delicious medium-rare burger.

Pretty much. I know I didn't pay the last couple times I went but it was great.

While the burgers weren't nearly as big, I used to go to a place in NC all the time where I could get something like a burger/chicken sandwich/whatever, two sides, and a soda for about five bucks and it was real high quality food too, so Five Guys seemed pretty irrelevant.

toggletoggle post by frankovhell at Jul 2,2011 4:39am
One opened up here about a year ago. I admit to enjoying the burgurs quite a lot and the massive amount of fries they give you. Although I can in no way finish even half of them so they get cold and stale and thrown away which is a total waste. They should cut their prices which are way to high and stop fucking wasting shit.

I'd go there for 2 people burger + 1 fry and drinks its like 18 bucks. fuck that.

If you feel like driving half an hour, there's one in Plymouth, and now Wareham. I think they just put one in Taunton but I could be mistaken.

That being said, I try to avoid chains as well, but sometimes that's impossible because of beer being served and their proximity to other attractions (movie theaters, etc)

I think Plymouth is the one I went to last. I'm not big on chains, I don't really go out to eat much...rarely anything I can eat anyway and I don't trust food servers. Most "vegetarian" stuff is cooked on the same tops as the meat and people are disgusting. Plus I cook better anyway.

Oh don't get me wrong, it definitely wasn't bad in the slightest, but it didn't strike me as like "holy shit this rules so hard I need to go here all the time!" kind of food, you know?

Having a Waffle House behind the hotel on the other hand... it's funny too, some of the stuff on this menu says it's TEXAS style. I got a chicken biscuit the other morning and it was the exact same thing as the ones I've had in other states, but on the menu here it has the word TEXAS in front of it so you remember what state you're in when you're eating that biscuit.

TEXAS.

The south does a lot of food better, unless you're looking for Italian or pizza. Then the northeast does it better.

Texans are proud of Texas. Seriosuly. When I was going to school there as a child, we learned more about the history of Texas than the history of the US.

In fact, I have a bumper sticker (not stuck on anything, mind you) that says PROUD TO BE FROM TEXAS

Having never been here until this week, I always thought of Texas as its own country. It seems to have its own pretty clear dialect, culture, people, lifestyle, etc.

My best friend lives in Texas, I'm looking forward to visiting her someday...she's told me allll about how intense that place is. She lives in El Paso where you find dead, leathered Mexicans in the dessert as easily as dead animals.

That must be some spicy dessert.

Well, one thing I can say about this place is that they really do everything bigger here. Mundane things like car dealerships and restaurants are in absolutely MASSIVE buildings for what they are. Must suck to build so many things so needlessly huge to rack up huge air conditioning and upkeep costs.

I also walked into the Wal-Mart near my hotel last night... oh man. I can't remember the last time I saw so many mouthbreathing zombies in one place. The first two employees I saw in there were literally standing with their mouths open staring off into space.
