technically, its not, as in they tell you to sell whatever you can, but they check up with you every so often to see what you sold, and will sound disappointed when its not a satisfactory number in their eyes. |

i think its all a scam to try to make some bank out of bands that have regular draw. i'm fairly certain its the metal version of what my rock band just went through and will probably result in nothing good for any bands involved. |

The only reason I posted this was cus I was amused by her even trying to come back. Plus booking it the same weekend as a major metal/hard rock festival in the same city.
oh wait, just remembered she did that last year haha. *sigh*

we've done two rounds of the "Get Your Rock On" festival which is promoted by 220 Productions (which i think also does this). We've sold a combined total of almost 200 tickets in an effort to get label attention and over a month has passed with no update on the situation. i'm starting to believe it was all bullshit to rake in some dough from popular area bands. so it would make sense that if your band doesnt sell enough tickets that they would hassle the shit out of you because thats less money in their pockets. i dunno the whole thing just seems sketchy.

I got the story on this from the venue, sponsor and band perspectives last year. The festival sponsors pay to "rent" the venue for the weekend and collect all the ticket money. Win/win for the venue, they get the money up front from the sponsors and if the bands draw then they sell a lot of beer & liquor for 2 days straight. The sponsors make a profit only if the bands draw. The bands really don't get anything special other than to have Juliya introduce them onstage like she even knows who they are, and hopefully play to a decent sized crowd. Had fun playing the one last year but would have rather just booked my own show. |
