Thoughts?

Songs are every bit as awesome as I'd hoped. The MASSIVE riffs that I've come to expect from Matt Pike are abundant here.

The production leaves much to be desired though. Weak drum sounds, lacks the space and depth of the previous 2.

I dig it...it seems to me like its a lot faster overall than their previous material

Interesting. I think it's sludgier. More groovey.

Though admittedly, I haven't heard all of their stuff.

oh it def has its groovy, sludgy parts...it just seems like they made a point to go at least a little faster

i dig it. was more of a grower for me but i think i honestly care for it more than their other material, maybe i need to go back and give the earlier stuff another chance. i read somewhere that they were listening to a lot of faster jams during the writing process (slayer etc.) and so it came out that way... i think jeff matz wrote a good bit of the album as well

I like this album, it got a good groove, but I would say that "The art of self defense" is my favorite. It's raw and sludgy.. And he was fresh out of Sleep..
