New site? Maybe some day.

It is wonderful! I just got it (Chimera) and listened to about 2 and a half songs (don't have time right now for the whole thing) and it is great. A cross between Wolf's Lair Abyss and Grand Declaration of War (now about 8 people are going to say "wow, a cross between their two worst albums, can't wait to pick that one up", but I already hear you so hold your tongues). Maniac's vox are much better than usual (no talking, sounds more black metal), and Hellhammer's drumming is stunning again, although it is mixed poorly and he is still using triggers. The guitar work is more technical than before, and not as speedy. I really like it to tell you all the truth. Hahaha, and the booklet is made of such a weird type of paper in such a strange color and texture, you have to hold it at a certain angle to read. Oh, and another plus, an overhead diagram of Hellhammer's set! Quite awesome. This album is filled with awesome. Now everyone shall disagree with me and it will be fun. |
Haven't herd it yet, i'll probably pick it up within a week or so, or whenever i get money.
Does it bother anyone else that these guys still call themselves Mayhem yet there are no original members in the band? Not that i care as long as it's good music. But it's something to think about. |
Isn't Hellhammer an original member? |
thanks for the heads up retzam, i'll defintaly check it out now, and yes DEM hellhammer is an original member i believe, so is maniac the vocalist, he left the band after the fist album or something like that |
hellhammer isn't an original member, the originals are Euronymous, Necrobutcher, and Manheim. I guess you could call maniac an original because he was their first real vocalist. |
I enjoyed Wolf's Lair Abyss but I couldn't stand Grand Declaration of War...I couldn't even make it through the cd. I'm curious to see what this sounds like. |
hmmm necrobutcher is on the new cd. sorry, they have one original.
damn it.. why don't people use the CD-review section?
I'm going to make link these to CD reviews... faggots... |
Yes, the original members are Necrobutcher, Maniac, Manheim, and Euronymous. So 50% of the original members are in the band. But Hellhammer is better than Manheim at drums, and Blasphemer is better than Euro (although I wish Euro never died and was still in the band). I will review this in the review section Rev, I actually do use that a lot. Oh, and your welcome Abbath, anytime! |
I'm in the process of linking the two.. sort of...
once you put that in the cd-review section, I'll show you. |
Wolf's Lair Abyss was excellent. Grand Declaration was good too, it just catches people off guard since it isn't traditional. Any mp3s of this around?? |
I love Mayhem, I dont get why people give them shit. |
Because they're not very good? |

Well, their old stuff is not good in a not good kind of way, but their new stuff is not good in a really awesome kind of way. They are the apitamy of a love them or hate them band. |
Oh and bornsovile, I completely agree. I love Grand Declaration, it is my favorite Mayhem album. |
i think Mayhem is just as good as all their controvery they cause |
waiting for anyone to make fun of tuff scary norweigian black musicians and their tuff scary taste for cahs. |
in 1987, i was 7... damn these guys are getting old... hehe |
everyone thought that World Funeral from Marduk sucked, but hey I honestly thought it was good. i dunno who here would agree with me on that one but heh i liked it and grand declaration i liked too. it's just that once they switch their style everyone quick to judge with their 'recent' releases to just be a flop |
World Funeral's a damn good record. |
I am a big fan of World Funeral. |
I havn't heard World Funeral, but I bet I would like it. |
fucking Marduk's World Funeral is a great black metal album i've been listening to it almost once a day |

Technically Maniac isn't original though. He wasn't on their first album nor was he in any of their demos before that. And they had a "vocalist" before him. |
He was indeed on their first album, which was Deathcrush. But I didn't know they had a vocalist before him. Who was that? |
I heard a few tracks today, and they were good. Im gonna pick it up soon |
Good man! |
Their first album was Pure Fucking Armageddon. And either Necrobutcher or Euronymous sang for it, I don't know which one. Even though its not really singing all he did was scream, there were a few words. |
I just checked the official site. Pure Fucking Armageddon is not regarded as an album, but as a demo, which was re-released later as an album. Euro and Necro both had lyrics on it, then Messiah came along and I believe both him and Maniac had vocals on Deathcrush, which was also regarded at the time as a demo, but has since been re-released as an album. Those are the facts as they appear on their official site, as screwed up as they sound. So, I guess De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was their first real album, recorded in 93 and released in 94. |
K, I asked my friend. Necrobutcher and Euronymous sang at first for Pure Fucking Armageddon, then they got Messiah, and then came Maniac for Deathcrush. |
Messiah did sessions on Deathcrush, I am telling you. Go to the discography section in their site. |
Yeah you're right on that too. But the point is Mayhem formed in 83 (without Maniac) released their first cd in 86 (without Maniac). After Pure Fucking Armageddon in 86 Maniac joins. So he didn't join til 3 years after the band was formed. They even played live a few times before he joined the band. |
Yeah, I was most definately quite wrong about that. That was proved recently in another Mayhem thread. Hahahaha. Mayhem threads always attract a lot of attention I notice. |
i was definitely impressed
why do black metal bands have such insane change ups? |
cause they are always killing each other.
and it's like menudo, once the get to be 18, they are out of the band unless they are:
1) dead
2) undead
3) entwined with the wolf spirit |
hahahaha
damn i'm 19 i guess i'll be out of my band soon |
No, that only applies for Norweigan black metal bands Abbath. You're safe. |
ahahah i'm gonna try to find the new mayhem cd today retzam |
Cool man, you won't be dissapointed. There is a cool digipak floating around too, but I only found the jewel case. |
