Stupid post, but I generally try to avoid doing this stuff. Seeing how cold it is outside, would this fuck the head up? Had no choice..

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 10:59am
In and of itself, no. But when you want to play, leave it at room temperature for a while. Going from cold temperature to hot quickly could break the glass or the filament. You're fine if you just let it come back up to room temperature.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:00am
Ok thanks. That's what I thought. That's what I don't want happening.

Tubes aren't this crazy delicate technology that some people think they are.

No. Your power tubes are blown.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 17,2009 11:02am
Yep, what Martins said.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:03am
What about leaving frozen heads in a car for 8 hours? Would the cops arrest me?

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 11:04am
If you let them come back up to room temperature, you get an abbreviated sentence.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 11:07am
You have an H+K right? I've been hearing a lot about them lately.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:12am
Valveking with upgrades tubes.

My SS is H&K.. But the other guitarist in hollagrim had a tubed h&k. Greeaat sound IMO.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 11:13am
You know, Valvekings are great amps. I was really surprised at the tones I could get out of Eliot's old one. What tubes did you "upgrade" to? JJs I would hope.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:15am
I can't remember the exact type but I believe JJs. I bought it used.

The h&k tube models blow me away everytime I hear them. It just sucks that there not many aithorized dealers around here. There's one in providence that not bad.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:16am
Phonegrish ftw.

Zimbloth, (his user name at Sevenstring.org but I think his real name is Nick) who runs/owns The Axe Palace in Walpole is trying to become an authorized dealer. He has so much great shit there too. Never been there myself but his website lists all the good gear you'll ever need.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2009 11:23am
That would be cool. Underappeciated company imho. But I don't know shit.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 11:24am
I want to get their tubeman pedal but I'm not buying anymore gear for a while besides a delay pedal and maybe a Peavey Rockmaster.

Let's have a shred-off-a-thon

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 17,2009 12:45pm
The last time 99% of RttPers could have seen me play was at a Dover Brickhouse show almost two years ago. I've gotten WAY worse since then.

I'm pretty sure aliens made tubes.

Al Gore made a series of tubes.

Yes, his name is Nick...he's one of the guitarists in Nemecide. He'd already become a dealer by the time you posted this

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

toggletoggle post by JustinSteele   at Dec 18,2009 10:00am
The only concern I would have is condensation caused from bringing the amp from cold to warm/hot environments. The resulting water could get into the pots or any other components. It's not a guarantee, but just a concern. I have heard that wrapping your gear in plastic bags can prevent condensation but I've never tried it.
Having done some touring in the winter, we've left gear in the cold and brought it right into sweltering venues, then back and forth etc. No real issues to report.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Dec 18,2009 10:04am
suggestions for tube replacement? also does continued use of an amp with one tube blown affect the amp negatively?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 18,2009 10:06am
Yea. I never really had issues before. The condensation was a small concern but overall, it's fine. Thanks for the replies, including martins <3

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:07am
What kind of tubes are you looking to replace.

For your other question, it depends. A blown preamp tube will fuck shit up. Some amps allow you to remove two power tubes for half wattage. If one of your power tubes is blown and your amps allow this, you could pull out its partner and be safe. Otherwise, yes.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 10:09am
I'm doing a complete retube in a few weeks because epic studio time commences at the end of next month. My amps shall be fresh as fuck.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:10am
I want to do a full retube as well for epic tonez but now that I have 12 tubez and I want them all to be selected for high gain, I'm fucked $$wise.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:11am
You probably have even more tubez.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 10:12am
oy...yeah, only 2 power and and 2 pre in my Bad Cat, which is nice since I need to replace the power section after 6-8 months (the downside of Class A). The ENGL is 4 and 4, but I changed out the Preamp a few months ago, so that can obviously wait.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:14am
I need to get some sweet E34Ls for the ADA side of my TS100. Though I might be replacing the ADA with a Peavey Rockmaster for more metuhlz. Probably would sound sweet with that too.

Looks like we're tied at 12.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 10:20am
combo of EL34s and 6l6s are definitely a win.

My amp repair dude is pushing KT66s on me. I may experiment more after the studio.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Dec 18,2009 10:20am
between needing new tubes and a new catalytic (sp?) converter this holiday season is bullshit.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:20am
If I get the rockmaster, I'll have 14, then my dick is bigger.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 18,2009 10:23am

I almost needed to replace my catalytic converter a while back. Would have had to spend half a month's pay to fix that shit. Shit sucks. Just buy tubes. Tone > transportation.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 10:26am
tone > all

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 18,2009 10:29am

I was so disappointed with the outcome of the Archaeon cd. Sounded horrible.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:30am

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 18,2009 10:38am
It's an ep.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:41am edited Dec 18,2009 10:42am
Don't care. We played through his nice 1x12 Orange cab but I have a feeling it was rated well below 100W. Speaker distortion (in a bad way) all over the place, nevermind the little Orange logo hitting the mic sometimes from the crazy vibration. Wasn't a very good room to record in. We still got an awesome deal and Ryan was a great guy to record with.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 18,2009 10:45am
I guess you're that critical of it because it's yours. But I think the sound fits it well or being an ep.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:48am
Whatever, in the future we'd probably be recording at the studio Eliot works at and he would be engineering it. He's a wizard behind the console.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 10:48am
Lol, though I guess by we I mean me and Eliot anyway haha.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 18,2009 12:43pm
Your fault for recording through ryans tiny terror 1x12 and not a 4x12 brah. Definetly well under 100 watts rated.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 18,2009 1:37pm
Whatever dude. Didn't know shit then. Pretty sure I had just found out what a power tube was.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 18,2009 3:03pm
Yah I know. Just ragging on you. Wish my first real band's recording sounded liek that.

Back on topic: can't wait to throw a quad of SED winged C 6L6s in my Dual Rec. Them with some Tung-Sol 12AX7s = SEX

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 3:46pm
When did you get a Dual Rec?

2-channel, I assume?

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 3:46pm
I stand by the SED wing C's. I have them in my ENGL and will be putting the EL34s in my Lynx upon Dave Martinka suggestionage.

Blue's Dual Rec is one of the best things. Ever.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 18,2009 4:08pm

Honestly, I haven't missed it a bit since selling it.

I definitely told you about it when I first got it. Obtained it in June-ish for a fantastic deal. Two channel obviously, #001757 made. 1994ish.

This rings a bell.

Our relationship has been reduced to bumping into each other at Eyehategod.

I know, its sad. I'm going to come to a mast show sooner or later, but you guys won't play outside of RI.
