Yo dawg, figured it'd be something entertaining to collect RTTP user preferences for Government.

My best guess, because most of you are from MA that you are Democrats but don't agree/know what Democrats are.

Registered independent, and I'm completely all over the political spectrum, can't really find a party I identify with enough to latch onto.

I used to be Socialist because I'm all about giving everything to the individual but a socialist government would be so easy to corrupt, hence why communism and socialism is perfect on paper but never works in practice.

but then again, we live in a very socialist country now, but the bad kind, yet it portrays itself as democratic

It is a democracy with socialist qualities.
I think people expect these terms to be pure. They can't. Atleast they shouldn't be.

We must find a good balance between comerce and government. That takes work.

Isn't that picture already the Repubican logo?

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Nov 10,2009 7:44am
For political affiliation, I think a term like "progressive moderate" is MUCH better, as it tends to describe most Americans in general and the nature of our republic for that matter: very forward thinking on balance, but also measured and cautious systemically.

The vast majority of people in the US in recent years fall into this category according to polls - progessive moderate - they self-identify with either one term or the other or both, and generally hold similar views as each other on most major issues, although every individual is different and may have a different point of view on a single particular issue.

Then you have another 23% of the country who is reactionary batshit insane and want the 1680's back.

I consider myself in the first group. I have a feeling most of us here are.

right on D, i can't stand these idiots that act like unchecked corporate power is somehow less pernicious than unchecked governmental power, when in reality, it can be more so.

P.S. I align myself most closely with the libertarian party or extreme left democrats, but both those movements have been perverted by their current memberships so i voted for cthulu.

Exactly right. I'll take the institution that gives me a VOTE, thanks.

Unchecked power is never good, but my political representatives at least want me to stay alive so I can potentially vote for them, unlike a private insurance company that really would rather prefer a low-income bastard like myself be dead if it increased their bottom line - literally - as they reward and praise employees who deny or drop medical coverage and allow people to die.

One institution, the goverment, profits from our continuing existence, because even if as underground musicians we are not making enough money per year to pay substantive taxes back into the system, we still have a vote; the other institution would rather see us dead if it increased their profit margin.

People who don't understand which one is less trustworthy are fucking retarded.

I think the fact that those two theoretically disparate groups you just describe can now so easily be put on the same page is indicative of what I pointed out earlier; our political landcape has become a small contingent of authoritarian neoconservative corporatist goat fuckers with their neanderthal racist sheep bleating behind them vs. EVERYBODY ELSE. Consider that libertarians and extreme left Democrats, the two groups you describe, would have in the past been considered far from each other on the political landscape; against the cabal of power brokers controlling the modern day GOP, however, we all find ourselves united against the same insanity.

I think you're right about purity: every government is a little bit socialist and all successful ones are a large part capitalist.

However, I think you're leaving the biggest part of the equation out: the people.

You need good, rational, educated or life-educated, pragmatic people or your nation turns into Brazil, which is very fuck but also very fail when it comes to living there.
