Their first album "The Crystal Palace" is extremely underrated. Somewhat folky/Viking at parts, and very melodic all throughout. I think it's a classic. The album utilizes keys pretty heavily, but I mainly enjoy the layer of acoustic guitar behind each song.
They kind of crapped out after that - it's a shame. Quality melodic '97 black metal
Here's a song off it:
Nothing like Mithotyn.
This album (the crystal palace) is a little cheesy at times (thanks to the keys ) but it has solid composition and vocal melodies. i like the instrumental track a lot.
I like cheese. Nothing's more metal than keyboards and glorification of battle! Unless you're Manowar, then you just suck... Do they even use keys? Hell I don't know, I just know I can't stand them.
i like overused keys as long as they sound good. Dimmu's SBD and EDT are prime examples. Limbonic Art also heavily uses keys, but at some points i would have liked them to tone it down a bit, especially on "Moon in the Scorpio", despite my love for that album.
wait...so keys make it false? the keys in "In the Nightside Eclipse" complete the album.

i didnt say anything about emperor being false.
the hott topic loving nocturnum folks, and their extreme over use of keys to cover up the fact that they are terrible. CNV would eat those faggoths for breakfast. as for worcester BM, only darkwor is real.
I know plenty of people that don't like keys in metal. I'm indifferent; some bands sound great with them, some without.
They can be quintessential for atmosphere in certain black metal bands. others, not so much. It really depends on what the band sounds like.
what's with the random CNV statement? they'd eat hot topic posers?
I should have said that it SHOULD HAVE. I love it when I see people that claim to be kvlt but got into black metal in 2004 *cough* beelze *cough*
in my honest opinion, the only people allowed to have that attitude are the ones that were listening to black metal when it was in it's infancy stages up until the 2nd wave. I first heard black metal around 1996 but didnt really get into it until a few years later. That gives me NO authority over anyone. It's a fucking joke - I never liked the the kvlt attitude people, 9 times out of 10 they are posers for acting like one.
If I was older, I would have totally been buying that shit earlier son!
i mean i can understand having respect for someones musical knowledge...but anything beyond that is rediculous

underground scene niche authority ist krieg.
maybe it's me but I've got much respect for the chaps that've been into the bm underground for years. always a pleasure to talk to them. I would have loved to own bathory vinyl 20 years ago. Too bad I was playing with action figures and nintendo :'(
