Their first album "The Crystal Palace" is extremely underrated. Somewhat folky/Viking at parts, and very melodic all throughout. I think it's a classic. The album utilizes keys pretty heavily, but I mainly enjoy the layer of acoustic guitar behind each song.
They kind of crapped out after that - it's a shame. Quality melodic '97 black metal
Here's a song off it:

bennyhillifier

or a link to the DL if you can't find/buy it

Opus III has Link on the album cover.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Aug 20,2009 10:36pm
Not huge on Opus III. haha. So weak compared to this album.

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Aug 20,2009 10:37pm
It's an ok album, compared to others out there. Definitely not their best.

I thought you didn't like black metal?

toggletoggle post by quintessence  at Aug 21,2009 3:16am
Thanks dude. I am liking this track. DL'ing

Bump. Underrated album

Melodic/Folky? Sounds like my kind of stuff, buddy-O. Anything like Mithotyn or Myrkgrav?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 18,2010 10:06am
Nothing like Mithotyn.
This album (the crystal palace) is a little cheesy at times (thanks to the keys ) but it has solid composition and vocal melodies. i like the instrumental track a lot.

toggletoggle post by Woah!_Shut_It_Down!  at May 18,2010 10:09am
I like cheese. Nothing's more metal than keyboards and glorification of battle! Unless you're Manowar, then you just suck... Do they even use keys? Hell I don't know, I just know I can't stand them.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 10:32am
i like overused keys as long as they sound good. Dimmu's SBD and EDT are prime examples. Limbonic Art also heavily uses keys, but at some points i would have liked them to tone it down a bit, especially on "Moon in the Scorpio", despite my love for that album.

you guys should read ur bibles more

maybe this explains why you <3 nocturnum

but then there is this contradicting statement......

death to false BM spawned from the depths of hott topic.

I miss Beelze.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at May 18,2010 12:43pm
Only David Coverdale is real.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 12:44pm
wait...so keys make it false? the keys in "In the Nightside Eclipse" complete the album.

toggletoggle post by anonymoose at May 18,2010 12:49pm
i didnt say anything about emperor being false.

the hott topic loving nocturnum folks, and their extreme over use of keys to cover up the fact that they are terrible. CNV would eat those faggoths for breakfast. as for worcester BM, only darkwor is real.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 12:56pm
ah. Worcester has balck metal.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 12:59pm
i've never heard Forlorn, but i like old Gehenna, and they have some of the same members.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 18,2010 12:59pm
what a joke.

I know plenty of people that don't like keys in metal. I'm indifferent; some bands sound great with them, some without.
They can be quintessential for atmosphere in certain black metal bands. others, not so much. It really depends on what the band sounds like.

what's with the random CNV statement? they'd eat hot topic posers?

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 1:04pm
i just figure nowadays if it isn't a shitty Leviathan or Xasthur rip-off on Moribund Records then it's considered false.

You haven't met my friend Matt, have you?

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at May 18,2010 2:19pm
the kvlt is alive

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 18,2010 2:43pm
I should have said that it SHOULD HAVE. I love it when I see people that claim to be kvlt but got into black metal in 2004 *cough* beelze *cough*

in my honest opinion, the only people allowed to have that attitude are the ones that were listening to black metal when it was in it's infancy stages up until the 2nd wave. I first heard black metal around 1996 but didnt really get into it until a few years later. That gives me NO authority over anyone. It's a fucking joke - I never liked the the kvlt attitude people, 9 times out of 10 they are posers for acting like one.
If I was older, I would have totally been buying that shit earlier son!

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at May 18,2010 2:48pm
lol @ having authority over someone

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at May 18,2010 2:54pm
i mean i can understand having respect for someones musical knowledge...but anything beyond that is rediculous

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 18,2010 2:57pm edited May 18,2010 2:59pm
underground scene niche authority ist krieg.
maybe it's me but I've got much respect for the chaps that've been into the bm underground for years. always a pleasure to talk to them. I would have loved to own bathory vinyl 20 years ago. Too bad I was playing with action figures and nintendo :'(

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at May 18,2010 2:58pm
action figures > black metal attitude

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 18,2010 3:19pm

toggletoggle post by sigh at May 20,2010 10:58pm

No, it didn't. It just re-located to the West Coast.

One could argue that, yes.
