Just watched this. It's about a metal band in Iraq that Vice had been following for years. It follows them for a couple years as they try to play metal shows in Baghdad, their practice space gets blown up, all the guys eventually have to flee to Syria just to keep their families safe. It's a pretty fucked up story about post-war Iraq, and at the same time kind of an endearing story about guys who essentially risk their lives and freedom just to play Slayer covers.
Is this about the same metal band that came to the states a little while ago? Or am I still thinking about the same metal band but am incorrect in the fact that they didn't come to the states?

I saw this. Great movie and not just because it's metal. It really hits home the point that you can't do shit over there and that we are very lucky people no matter how much we all bitch and moan.

OMFG REPOST!
at least 3 of the guys finally made it to the U.S. after being in Turkey for a bit. Two of them are in NJ (I believe) and the other is randomly in Michigan.
I was happy to meet them when they first got to NY backstage at a Testament show. I thought they looked familiar and went probably an hour thinking "damn, those guys look really familar!" before realizing it was them. heh. Happy for them to have gotten the F out of there.
