I SAW GOD

got vol 4 on right now

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Mar 17,2009 1:53pm
SRSLY, I realize now that I've never really taken the time to fully appreciate Vol. 4. I mean, I've liked it since I got it, and it's got a few of my absolute favorite Sabbath songs on it (Snowblind, Supernaut), but I've never sat down and picked it apart the way I have with the previous three. Especially with headphones - some of the overdubs and background stuff going on there are amazing and way ahead of their time.

LOL @ my already working on my post when you pop in with Vol. 4. [/COLLISION COURSE WITH WACKINESS]

Snowblind is easily my favorite Sabbath song.

I'm actually listening with just the left earbud in to check out the bass stuff - all kinds of wacky shit in that side when you take out most of the lead stuff on the right track.

"I've done that, man."

"Yeah, man?"

"Yeah, with Grand Funk"

LOL

the wizard. Ftw. I've always wanted to cover that song but I know I could never pull off the harmonica solo. I could try and hilarity will ensue.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Mar 17,2009 2:33pm
We always pulled that solo off with a Rusty Trombone.

INTO THE VOID OR GTFO

N.I.B.

W3 speaks truth - heaviest riffs/song, EVAR.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Mar 17,2009 3:11pm
Yeah, I would have to agree about Into the Void -- the opening riff is beyond heavy and the chorus riff can only lead to epic head-banging.

actually there's a trombone rock/funk band that covers The Wizard. Trust me when I say it is an enormous amount of win!

i have no idea why but the opening harmonica from The Wizard is on a song from Carnival of Carnage by ICP, i think its "Guts on the Ceiling".

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 17,2009 5:16pm
it's also used by Cypress Hill on Black Sunday

Where can you find 78s these days? Every used record shop I've been to only has 33s and 45s.

Also, while obviously not as good as Ozzy and Dio, Tony Martin era Black Sabbath is way underrated. I've been rocking "Cross Purposes" lately.

Ian Gillan on the other hand...

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Mar 18,2009 12:15pm
Play the Wizard harmonica part on a pastrami sandwich a la Al Bundy.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Mar 18,2009 12:19pm
I think you'll mainly find 78s in old blues/jazz/swing/country/folk stuff.

I totally agree with you on this one. So glad there are others that feels this way.

Tyr is a hugely underrated album as well. The first song, while not as heavy as some other songs, is one of my fav Black Sabbath songs. The riff is godly.

I wish my record player went to 78... I bet grind rules at that speed.

toggletoggle post by DYA NLI at Mar 18,2009 4:53pm
Anal Cunt rules equally hard at 16 and 78 speed.
