I'm going there tomorrow to show an all ages show for a band, I've never been there and my last trip to Jamaica Plain was fairly unpleasant so:

-should I drive or take the train?
-odds of being jumped for camera vs car broken into
-odds getting pictures without face/camera broken?

Please and thank you.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 28,2008 12:33pm
isn't it illegal to show an all ages? is that like harold and maude?
I'm fairly sure that I'm going to be there.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 28,2008 12:33pm
I'm an idiot. Shoot. Not show.

I don't understand why people are weird about goin to JP. I've lived here for like six years and never had a problem. I'm sure your stuff will be fine.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 28,2008 12:51pm
"why white people" you mean.
JP was rough in the 90's, but has cleaned up a lot cause more white people have moved in there.

When Zircon played there a few months ago there was a drive-by shooting right out front while we were onstage. Of course, it was because someone gave the finger to a passing vehicle. Don't flip anyone off and I think you'll be fine. Oh and make sure you get a burrito at the joint next door, you won't regret it.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 28,2008 1:06pm
they have burritos next door? I thought it was just pizza.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 28,2008 1:07pm
what time is this show over anyhow? that and the show I'm going to afterward was the determining factor whether or not I go to this show first.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 28,2008 4:38pm
I haven't been to JP since the 90s I think and it was a fucking shit hole. I'm not that worried about it, just curious.

I'd like to know when it's over too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2008 11:30am
any ideas?

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 29,2008 12:15pm
Word. I don't think I'm staying the whole show, but we'll see.

Leaving soon to throw laundry and baby at my mom before the show. Yay mom.

Going, Rev?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2008 2:52pm
yeah, you are throwing your baby in the wasing machine? does that work?

Midway Cafe blows.

toggletoggle post by ZJD   at Nov 29,2008 3:32pm
the midway is also one of the only places in boston doing all ages shows.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2008 4:44pm
im here hanging out with pam. the first band is starting to set up. people are late.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2008 4:58pm
and the first band begins.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2008 5:26pm
The music between the bands rules. SBC and the misfits!

no illusions: punk done by young kids. One of whom was wearing a peewee herman set of shoes. I think they played a poison idea cover. They also played a song against some band I didn't know, but that was after playing a song that was anti boston bar rock. Bands like the dropkick murphys and street dogs. Granted this is from a band that was at the time playing in a boston bar. I said thatbut wasn't loud enough I guess.

kill andrade: the drum set stays where it is so they set up wicked quick. Sort of the band I decided to come to this show to see. Their singer was kind of a danzig style singer. Young danzig that is. Not old fat danzig. They had a bunch of issues with their drums so that sort of dragged out their set a little. Longer pauses in between watching people duck and cover as they tried to avoid the singer rampaging through the crowd. Towards the beginning of their set, the mics cut out. I think someone unplugged the mixing board. They were the ons that set the show up and they had a toughbox full of waters and sodas for people.

Same misfits song x2... Ugh.

suburban showdown: swapped out the drums, but did it super quickly. Anyhow, they ruled. Some how they live 10 minutes from me and I've never seen them before. They could seemlessly dissolve into the PVD scene with bands like get killed or saint jude. They had a mic in the front of the stage that I thought one of the moshers as going to use, but it was just the bass player. I love going to a show and finding excellent bands that I didn't know of before.

btw: seeing patmeebles cleaning up people messes was hillarious. it's his party and he'll cry if he wants to.

disaster strikes: it has been a super long time since I saw these guys. No free sandwiches. Not that I got one of the sandwiches the other time. (it was them that gave out sammiches that time right?) they got the room swirling around in a big circle pit. At one point, it seemed like everyone in the room was in there moving around. If there ever were a perfect time to seem them with their anti-consumerism, disestablishmentarianism, anti-war message, it's when the USA is in 2 endless wars AND the day after black friday. That's like shooting fish in a barrel to their songs. I have thei first full length on my iPod and it rules when their songs come on.

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Nov 29,2008 7:39pm
A circle pit at Midway? What was it like, six inches in diameter?

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 29,2008 9:47pm
You know every fucking time I see Pat Meebles I think "where the fuck do I know that guy from?" and I never remember until someone says something.

I wish the show started on time so I didn't miss the last two bands but alas, the baby was done washing and I had to pick him up.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 29,2008 11:26pm
Going through pics now. Had my ISO up too high. Fuck me.

toggletoggle post by deadlikemurf  at Nov 30,2008 12:55am
they gave out sandwiches at that failure of a cambridge elks anniversary show we were on it w/ lik 10 other bands and only like 5 bands showed up and 3 of them were late...

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles nli at Nov 30,2008 2:29pm
I think this is the second show in a row that aaron didn't review our set. :(

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 30,2008 3:25pm
it's cause you headlined! and I was running around.

26 beers: I really didn't expect them to have a bigger response than disaster strikes, but damn me if they didn't have 1/2 the crowd up there on stage singing along with everything including the new songs that people shouldn't have yet (damn internet). I spent the better part of their set watching my knees as people moshed other people's heads into them. Sorry to anyone that bounced their skull off my knees (they just really wanted your skulls. they need your skuuuuuuuls)
