It had six legs, meaning it was an insect, but it was huge and bulbous and bloated and super-slow moving, and it had crab claws for front legs, and it drank a lot of water.

I'd never seen anything like it, then like 3 days later I found a hollowed shell of the same damn thing at my nana's house, only smaller, and I assumed mankind had been saved by ants who had eaten its insides.

Turns out it was just a cicada nymph.



But because I thought it was about to erupt with monster babies, I put it back outside. I wish I kept it, cause I could've watched it do this:

i find tons of those at my Gramp's house on Webster Lake, the shells are always on the dock.

The shells make an awesome crunchy snack with ranch dressing.
