8 strings are all the rage these days

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jun 11,2008 5:24pm
And I thought 7 strings was unnecessary -- that's just silly.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 11,2008 5:26pm
I dunno. It is the natural progression from the popularization of the 7 string and the whole baritone scale thing.

actually...I guess the natural progression would have been a 7 string baritone.

Ok, they jumped a step.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 11,2008 5:26pm
wait...the other one isn't baritone scale...I'm on fire

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jun 11,2008 5:27pm
Maybe it's just because I am a sub-par guitar player, but I am a firm believer that 6 strings is all you need.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 11,2008 5:29pm
I think I'd like the additional tools for songwriting.

But yeah...I dunno.

Got a song where I drop the low string down a 5th ...not intonated correctly, but it's fun.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 11,2008 5:29pm
I don't need more strings to brown note, is what I'm saying.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Jun 11,2008 5:31pm
The number of strings you have should be based on preference; if you really know what you're doing, you can use a 7th and/or 8th string for some awesome shit that is nearly impossible on a 6 string. It is a shame that many people will buy a 7 or 8 string guitar just so they can sound heavier though.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Jun 11,2008 5:46pm
Ion Dissonance uses 8 strings, and they actually do a lot of shit with it (more apparent on Solace than Minus the Herd). Either way those guitars are nice.

hulk hogan uses eleven strings.

that's actually a good thing.

Because before people were buying 7 and 8 string guitars to sound heavier, companies didn't make any god damn decent ones as production models and you had to pay out the ass to get a 7 string ibenhad or schecter made out of a coffee table.

So I'm glad kids in 7th grade want to have as many strings as possible, because it's making ESP put out some bitchin models. the new stephen carpenter 8 string is the hottest guitar ever.

You would need a 9 string to sound heavier than your six string.

i think meshuggah was the first band to go with the 8 strings...tuning down to g or some shit like that. i'm pretty sure they are the reason why stephen carpenter went with the 8 string model. he's on their nuts wicked bad in any guitar interview i've ever seen with him.

What's the lowest string tuned to? Z?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jun 11,2008 10:53pm
F# i believe?

i want to find an older src 7 in green with duncans. BONAR

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Jun 11,2008 10:54pm
F# would make sense. they're gonna start making guitar/bass hybrid amps to deal with all this low end haha

If they came out with something tuned to Z, I would jump on that bandwagon in a heartbeat. There can't possibly be anything more br00tal than a Z tuning.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 12,2008 8:52am
man, since I tune 6 strings to D-standard, if I were to use an 8 string it would be tuned down to "E"

I dug through my guitar to China!

We tune to C# standard. I am a half-step more br00tal than you.

consult the Agaycia Strain... im sure they can tell you.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 12,2008 8:58am
haha...D standard is such a puss tuning these days...In any case I would never contend that DC is more br00tal than LAZ...that would be just silly.

Haha -- whatever, we are just washed up old men. But we hold on to the DREAM, maaaaan!
