i hated rage against the machine. i'm glad they're no longer around. but anyway, how in the name of holy fuck did munky and head get to number 26, ahead of people like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Pete Townsend, and Timo Tolkki, looking past the mystery that they're even on there to begin with!!!???

toggletoggle post by Terence   at Jan 24,2004 8:04pm
why the fuck would Euronymous be on this list. He was an awful guitar player. He's probably only on it cause of the whole mayhem/burzum story, which is probably the most tired and exhausted story of all time.

I would rather listen to the wretched last breath coming from a dying, sickly old horse then this gay story again.

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Jan 24,2004 10:21pm
Flat out, that list sucks. No where near as bad as Rolling Stone's list though. At least there are actual guitarists on this list. Still shitty though. It's a popularity contest, not a measure of actual ability, fuck that.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jan 24,2004 10:22pm
i wonder who votes...i mean..their staff?

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 24,2004 10:22pm
how did korn make that list?

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Jan 24,2004 10:24pm
you're absolutely right DeOdiumMortis. it has nothing to do with skill, just popularity. shit i didn't even know Euronymous played guitar, i thought he only sang. the only reason Munkey and Head are on there is because they're popular, but no real musician takes them seriously. i wouldn't even put Zakk Wylde up as high as he his. he's done nothing special.

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 24,2004 10:25pm
this makes me sad: 55. Trey Azagthoth (MORBID ANGEL)

toggletoggle post by TheGreatSpaldino   at Jan 24,2004 11:13pm
I'm sorry, but this list is retarded.

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 24,2004 11:15pm
i think we can all agree on that.

toggletoggle post by TheGreatSpaldino   at Jan 24,2004 11:16pm
the funniest thing is... is that this magazine is a guitar magazine.

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 24,2004 11:17pm

the best...

how many times did you vote?

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Jan 24,2004 11:51pm
182,651. How do you think ~~checks the list~~ Ace Frehley got so high up there?

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 24,2004 11:53pm
i knew it. jerk.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jan 24,2004 11:55pm

Terence said:

The whole Euronymous being a shitty guitar player story always peeves me. Yeah he might have sucked live, but the music he wrote warrants his place on any list of greatest metal guitarists.

Regardless, where the fuck are Quorthorn, Samoth, and Demonaz?

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Jan 25,2004 5:52am
Yeah, I'm not surprised to not see Ihsahn up there because he's slipped into near-obscurity with Peccatum and whatever else he's up to, but Samoth is still out and about and Zyklon's just getting bigger. They've both been in the Guitar World lists before. Rat bastards.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jan 25,2004 12:50pm
that list is much more accurate than the top 20 rolling stone guitar players.

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Jan 25,2004 2:01pm
even if it's more accurate, it's still sad

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jan 25,2004 2:43pm
do you even play guitar? or just another girl that just plays the bass?

i consider this list not in any particular order, just the 100 top guitar players with #'s next to their names.

My problems with this list:

1)James and Kirk should NOT be on there, especially not in the #2 spot, give me a break.
2)Tony Iommi shouldn't be #1, he should be in the teens or 20s.
3)#1 should be Jimmy Page or Eddie Van Halen
4)Head and Munky...#26...rrrrrriiight

Anyway, other than that, I am pretty satisfied. I like Guitar World's inclusion of Bill Steer, Mikael and Peter, Abbath, Michael Amott, etc. and I am quite suprised to see Euronymous on any published American list of any kind! Did they include a picture? Or Mayhem's story maybe? Whatever, now my pet peeve: Steve Vai listed as a guitarist for David Lee Roth! Why don't they list him independently, which was how he got famous more or less and is when he wrote all of his best stuff.

toggletoggle post by moran   at Jan 26,2004 3:39am
I agree with every thing Retzam said, except that James hetfield is really under-rated.

Is he really? I agree if you are talking about song writing, cause he wrote some pretty mean riffs in his day.

toggletoggle post by A_Cold_Reality   at Jan 26,2004 11:19am
i don't know if they are judging be talent level, but i think this list should be called the most influential guitar players. I def think its better than rolling stones list, and i don't think its a bad list. These guitar players are for the most part, very good players, with a few exceptions of course (korn???). Tom Morello is a good guitar player, his stuff not be real difficult to play, but he is very innovative. Im not a RATM fan, don't get me wrong. But I am a guitar player.

toggletoggle post by joneser at Jan 27,2004 5:59pm
This list is way messed up but I can give you credit for Angelo, Petrucci and a few others. You can tell the "list lord" isn't an old school metalhead. Where the hell is Chris Oliva?

toggletoggle post by Mike_FOD at Jan 27,2004 6:22pm
Slimebag Darrel, Zakk Unwylde, Ace Frehley and Paul Gaynley are guitarists named before the likes of Chuck Schuldiner, Fredrik Thordendal and Martin Hagstrom? I'd like to know who the idiot was that conceived that list. The fact that Korn's guitarists are up there gives this list no validity.
