oh man, i wish i could go back and watch this for the first time. this movie rules. fun fact, R. Lee Ermey was not cast to be the Gunnery, he was only brought in to train the actor, though he wanted the part. rumor is he went in front of the camera and ranted for 15 minutes, never using the same insult twice, while people threw tennis balls and oranges at him, and he never flinched once or messed up his rant.

Stanley Kubrick should have quit after this so I could say that the man never made a bad film.

toggletoggle post by brad weymouth at Jan 17,2008 7:37am
so what's your review Rev?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 17,2008 8:01am
oh, I was really surprised at how short the vietnam ppart was and how long the bootcamp was. I knew that it was wicked quote laden, but I had heard 90% of the lines in that movie in songs from all sorts of bands from metal to industrial to rap. amazing just how much fair use has been made of this movie. they also didn't kill off any characters I cared about. oh and that guy who got shot talking on the radio was stupid. you could see right through that building. someone needs to play a little more call of duty. i'm going to try to find the DVD at home and see if there is another cut. I should have watched this movie before seeing the killing fields

toggletoggle post by corpus_colostomy at Jan 17,2008 8:30am

i could've sworn the bootcamp part was only 30-35 minutes of the movie, and the remaining hour was the war stuff

that being said, it's been a while since i've seen this movie, i need to watch it again.

Hell fucking yeah there was. And I think Richard Lewis the commercials. That shit was great...I think it was the first oversized juice box. They always had these crazy ass flavors too....

the summer of my fourteenth year was spent doing two things:

watching this movie and playing taped-bat / taped-ball wiffle ball
i must have seen it no less than 40 times in that summer alone

... ah, the good old days

toggletoggle post by NorthernFrost at Jan 17,2008 1:58pm
The boot camp part is 40 minutes, and honestly, it's the best part of the film.

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Jan 17,2008 2:17pm
I spent a good portion of last night watching clips from this movie. The part where Private Pile gets soaped is the most hilarious thing in the world.

That sounds like a pitch for a PG-13 version of Gummo.

I find it strange that you just saw this movie now rev. How bout them Ministry songs?
I used to just watch up to the part where Pile kills himself then turn it off. Great movie.

i probably should of gotten this one.

How can you compare this two movies? Besides being set in South East Asia in the 70's the films have very little comparison.

I can't even begin to imagine what the commercial for this movie looked like with all the profanity in the movie. I'd be surprised if they managed to fit in two lines of boot camp.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jan 18,2008 10:37am
i thought the Vietnam scenes were incredible, the soundtrack made it so dismal.

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Jan 19,2008 1:45pm
Kubrick was brilliant.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Jan 19,2008 1:48pm
I hate Kubrick, however the first 3/4ths of this flick were great. Got a little tedious and boring after dude shot himself.
