amen to that. i can't believe how stupid people can be. instead of actually coming up with real solutions to help they just jump on the bandwagon with this stupid idea that the fuel companies really care WHEN you buy gas.....cause they know you'll have to buy it.

It can go in front of or behind. In New Zealand they teach you to put the currency signs before the number, reguardless of currency. It's the way I learned in school... and you sir, are not a teacher.

haha thank you. I always purposely time it so I drain my tank before these "don't buy gas" days. Then I of course fill my 23 gallon tank up in the morning on those days. Then I'll go top it off later that night. It makes me feel special.

Thank you Carina!

People who are obsessed with being gramatically correct assume the way they learned something is the only way.

In England (which I could make a point to argue that the English language came from there), It's perfectly acceptable to place currency symbols before or after an amount of money.

Serously though, somebody explain to me how coordinating the entire country to fill up their gas tanks on the evening of may 14 is going to hurt the oil companies.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at May 14,2007 4:55pm
Exactly.

Let's all not buy gas on one day so that we can fill our tanks the day before and after.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 14,2007 4:59pm
The explanation in those stupid chain letters you get says something like "the lost revenue the oil companies experience in that single day would cripple them and lower the gas price permanently."

You have a good point. I would have bought some if i needed it, but my woman owed me cash the other day, so she filled my tank. Which is very unusual for me (her as well), as i always put $4 or $5 in it every time.

I love the terrorism angle. What a load of fucking shit.

If everyone that devoted his or her time to this cause devoted say an average of 15 minutes and lets also say for the sake of arguing that these people are only capable of earning minimum wage. If they had devoted their time to working that 15 minutes depending on where they live they would have earned between $1.28 and $2 in the U.S. and would have had no problem paying the differance between what gas cost 5 years ago and now.

Nope, it's really quite well documented...

from:

Cheney, energy and Iraq invasion
Supreme Court to rule on secrecy

Significant evidence points to the possibility that much more could be revealed than mere corporate cronyism: The national energy policy proceedings could open a window onto the Bush administration's decision-making process and motives for going to war on Iraq.

In July 2003, after two years of legal action through the Freedom of Information Act (and after the end of the war), Judicial Watch was finally able to obtain some documents from the Cheney-led National Energy Policy Development Group.

They included maps of Middle East and Iraqi oilfields, pipelines, refineries and terminals, two charts detailing various Iraqi oil and gas projects, and a March 2001 list of "Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts," detailing the status of their efforts. The documents are available at www.judicialwatch.org.

Oil Companies in Iraq:
A Century of Rivalry and War

Since the newest study has found a 600-700% increase in the rise of terrorism world-wide since the US invasion of Iraq, and the oil companies helped draw up the energy policy and invasion plans, you're funding terrorism and the needless deaths of our troops whenever you buy gas, have fun!

That and the problem isn't high prices, it's that we're continuing to use oil at all. This will obviously not end well, but one of 2 ways, nuclear war over the last remaining resources, or global warming, whichever happens to wipe life out of exsistence first. Both will be caused by our use of oil/coal and are easily preventable, (just like all the other unnessesary toxins we keep releasing that wind up right back in our food and water), but it's rather clear at this point that politicians aren't going to do anything about it until it's far too late...I've suggested lighting them on fire, but no one likes my ideas...

did you ever stop to realize that we CANT stop using oil any time soon? the average suburbanite slob cant afford to convert over to new forms of energy. we barely make enough to survive WITH oil. for us to stop using oil, its going to take a very, very long time. the gears of change are turning, we have scientists working their asses off to divert the effects of oil, but its not going to be this year, or next year, or even within the next 20. you dont factor in human ingenuity which is starting to reverse what we have done. you want instant results, but you wont get them, and because you dont see them, you continue to badmouth everything. or perhaps you believe that the government should fund every single vehicle, train, plane and boat to be converted over to earth-friendly fuels. or maybe you think the government should fund every single factory that relies on fossil fuels. its possible in the future, but not economically feasible right now. you spew your hate as if nothing is being done, as if we are just taking tankers full of oil and dumping them in the rainforest. news flash, the world isnt in as bad of shape as the media will have you believe. but i suppose you know differently because you are you right? toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 16,2007 12:48pm
this whole process is called "learning". we "learned" that oil and other fossil fuels emit toxins that effect our atmosphere, so now we are working to change things. soon we will "learn" that some bio-fuels give off another chemical that we need to fix. its an on-going process. you expect perfection based on your views, which are grossly biased, but thats not possible. things ARE changing, but since you only pay attention to what the media spews out, you wouldnt know that. so instead you just vomit your bullshit and expect people to believe you.

Sure we can, I'm wondering why it wasn't done 30-40 years ago, back when they'd already known it was a serious problem for a long time. If I could afford to convert over, anyone can, because I don't make shit. The government funds big oil, why shouldn't they fund safe, renewable energy conversion instead? Economic feasiblity isn't going to matter if we can't live here anymore will it? I don't care how corporations and factories switch, that's their problem, they've got plenty of money I'm sure they can handle it. We don't have all this time you're talking about, sure things are being done, but not fast enough. I've already done something about it, I'm telling you that you can do something about it also instead of making up excuses and waiting for the idiots in the government to come up with a solution. there's plenty of info on the internet about how to tell big oil to fuck off, why wait?

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at May 16,2007 1:41pm
It wasn't done in the past 30-40 years because big companies (oil companies included) fund the careers of politicians and political parties into office, who in turn return the favors.

Is it a coincidence that alternative energy wasn't being sought when gas prices went over $1.75?

You think shit would have been done during the gas crisis of the 1970's what we've all heard about. You know, all the lines at the pumps for hours... Gas stations running out of gas.... People only being able to get gas on certain days...

Money still funds politics and those who seem to have the most money (big coporations) have all the political prostitutes cater to them.

I know it sux, but it's difficult when there are only a few shit political parties to chose from who only run candidates that are nothing more than puppets.

I think the point HTL is trying to make is that you shouldn't wait for the energy companies to switch over when you can do it yourself. I think the preaching is a bit much, but seriously, who gives a fuck about the rest of society? If I were to convert my car over I wouldn't give half a fuck if what I was doing could support the entire world's energy problems because I know I'd be independent of it myself and I'd just laugh my ass off as the rest of the world kept bickering over this problem. If other people can't do it, that's their fucking problem, I'm the only person worth a shit and I would be creating a solution for myself, everyone else is on their own.
