New site? Maybe some day.
I've wanted an ipod for a while now, but it won't work on my computer.
apparently i need USB 2 inlets, but I only have USB1.
is there a piece of hardware I need to buy, or should I just smash this computer and buy a think tank? |
ya, youll need a new computer |
I just got a wicked sweet 19" monitor, saitek keyboard, optical mouse, and have a speaker system on order, but my pc is an absolute piece of trash. It's embarrasing. |
I use mine with an old USB, it's just slower. I think you can get USB2 hubs pretty easily. I supposedly have 3 USB2 ports but none of them work, so I just use the old one and be patient. |
It really REQUIRES USB 2.0?
You could buy an I/O card with USB 2.0 on it if you really wanted to. |
It doesn't require it, it suggests it for best results. |
usb 1 is slower than usb 2 - and yes you can always put a usb 2 card in a pc that only has usb 1 (but it's a pain with the drivers).
google search for usb 1 vs usb 2
I put a usb 2 card in pam/jon's pc that I donated to them, and I guess it didn't take well (I gave up on the drivers after playing with it for 20mins), it kept trying to use it's generic usb 1 driver. |
it doesn't require it, but you will transfer at 11mbps instead of 480mbps.
reading pam's first post is funny. sounds like when my mom talks about computers.
you need a USB 2.0 card like MSD said. otherwise a hub would still be plugged into USB1.1 and would only run at 11mbps. |
I don't want to haveto wait for 73 gigs to sync through a USB 1.
gross. |

Yeah I have no idea why they don't work, Jeremy. The computer sees the ports but nothing happens when I plug shit into them. Ever have any luck rescuing the F drive? |

Sorry, while you were studying computer terminology as a teenager, I was busy not being a nerd. |
winxp had mega issues with USB 2.0 originally. you are probably using an older version with driver issues. |
I've never had issues with the USB 2 card in my wifes computer (hers only had USB 1.1)
I just plugged it in, and it worked fine when I booted the computer back up. |
I don't really mind using the USB1, I only add an album or two at a time so it's not a big deal. I sync everything overnight anyway. |

then get fire wire.
faster than both usb1 &2 combined. |
WRONG. current supported firewire on the iPod is 400mbps. USB 2.0 is 480mbps which is a bigger number than the firewire tx rates. |
every firewaire/mac geek says firewire is faster.. jeezuz
well, actually from what wikipedia says, just like Rev points out - 400mbps vs 480mbps (usb2). BUT firewire handles contention better, is (daisy) chainable and USB2 doesn't hit the 480mbps mark much often. Firewire 2 is supposed to be 800mbps. Still mac people are lame, fagwire is overrated I will punch that Mac nerd on the tv commercials once I find him! |
That's why I just stick to IEEE 1394 |
there is a standard for 1600 out there, but everyone is trying to push 3G buses instead. |
Will USB 2.0 make my internets go fasters? |
it will make our G.P.U. go Y.E.S. oh and I upgraded your RAM. |
I think they're too busy buying white Nike's and hitting all the drug stores for phenabarbatol at this point. |
