We were never on the flyer so we didn't get cut out of it; I just think we should be on it considering we are playing the show and have been confirmed for sometime now. I was trying to start shit and I apologize if it came across that way.

#5 We are the successors around here in this area because of promotion and mainly because our music but most of all because our support through our people that believe in us.
#6 Other bands come and go,our music has stood the test of time as well as our attitude.

Zircon works their ass off, they deserve any and all recognition they get. They're nice guys, they help out other bands, and are an all around good band. However no one HAS to respect them or like them, besides who gives a fuck if someone doesn't like them? Ignore them, it's not like you're going to change their mind.
Secondly, Mark's always leaves an opener or two off the fliers. Make your own flier and move on. The place makes you pay to play, what do you expect from them? Openers are just money to pay the headliners to them, they don't give a fuck about you. The fliers the bands make will get spread around more than Mark's fliers anyway.

Pretty much. Enslaved - Isa was a big mehhh, so much so it hasn't inspired me to Ruun. Hopefully they'll impress me live with new material, but I hope they don't play a shit ton of it. Emperor is emperor, good band, never been a huge favorite of mine, never understood the big hype. Dark Funeral is probably one of the most over-rated incredibly boring bands I've ever heard in my life. I don't trust black metal singers with dreadlocks. Dimmu Borgir was great 15 years ago.
Magus Caliglia is such a terrible vocalist. he sounds awful on everything i've heard him on from theirs. i dont know if Themgoroth left or was booted out, but they went straight downhill after him.

My favorite Enslaved album is Blodheim2nd is Below the Lights, then Frost, Split w/Emperor, Ruun, Isa, Eld, Mardraum. They change their style within each release. Dark Funeral always sounded the same but I still can't wait to see them live. To hear that super tight evil black metal blast live at full volume, makes my blood boil, completely different then listening to them on any stereo under 1000 watts. Sucks theres no moshing.
Selling tickets is no different than paying to play. I think it sucks and I hate that anyone is supporting this shit, but when my friends (and in this case my family) need the ticket sales, I always do it. I can either shaft my friends or boycott this garbage way of doing things. Lose-Lose.
I tried talking Jon out of it, but apparently most of the band is on board and Loki could cut glass with his boner over playing with Dark Funeral. So I guess I'll see you assholes there.

Yes, people are entitled to their own opinions. Although, to some extent, I think they were "being a dick about it". However, I will give them an ounce of credit for expressing their opinions in a remotely intelligent way, (i.e. They said more than, "Fuck you. You suck.").

A decent chunk of what happens on this site consists of drama because some people out there have nothing better to do and/or they thrive on drama. Sometimes, it's amusing to make fun of how ridiculous the drama is (see my posts above for a good example). Other times, it's just a pain in the ass. My advice is to take it with a grain of salt and see it for what it is: pure and utter bullshit that isn't worth the time and effort it would take to actually get involved.
I'm not really upset, You know I think cnv is a good band, they have strong black metal roots. Zircon will release different generes of music and black metal is just a influence. I just dont understand why we cant unite. Instead it turns into a battle of egos. New England will never be what Europe was, Its up to all of us to work together to make this scene happen.

My favorite Enslaved album is FROST and anyone that listens to my riffs closely will hear a strong influence there. It's going to be killer hanging out with these dudes and Dark Funeral. I hope they don't stay in their tour bus all day. Every band that is on this show opening for these bands are lucky to be sharing the stage with these Black Metal Darklords.

I want to give all the bands some pointers that may help them get rid of some tickets. Go to your local music store that sells Metal. Ask them if they can hang up the Dark Funeral flyer and tape another little sign to the flyer saying tickets sold here. Put the tickets on consignment at the store and just ask for the money you need to get back to Bernie. At least the tickets will get sold even if it's only 5 or 10 of them. Your also promoting the show and telling people about it that may have never found out. Do the same with Tatoo shops.

You guys shouldn't have been paying to play either. Actually the way it should work is...
1. Promoter asks band to play.
2. Band says "sure!"
3. Promoter actually goes out and promotes and gets people to show up.
4. Depending on how well he/she does that, the crowd shows up.
5. The band does their part by loading up their gear, traveling to the show, setting up, playing the gig, breaking down, packing up & after the promoter pays the band, they go home.
You're a victim as much as anyone who gets suckered by this shit. I love how because a big band's on the bill we're "expected" to sell X amount of tickets if we want to play the gig.
i agree with you completely on how the system should work, and i think you're the only person who can complain about it because your band got on the show and didn't tell you it was pay to play until after. i don't see the point of other people complaining about it though. all the bands on here know bernie's policies by now and if they choose to go along with it, they shouldn't complain about it. if bands are against it, they shouldn't do it. i didn't complain about the katatonia show because i knew what i was getting my band into, so if i ended up screwed over for money by not selling the necessary amount of tickets, i'd have no one to blame but myself.

How would that be possible?.... Bombshelter, besides a few faults was one of the best places to play/see a show in NH in my opinion....And 90% of the shows were ALL AGES, Can you say that about any club in MA/RI?, Nope.
If it was managed a little better, and was cleaner and had some ventilation, It would have been the perfect venue, in the years it were open, No nationals had any complaints, All the complaints were from local bands, go figure.

There's like 20 fucking openers, this show has 4pm doors (on a Monday, when people are still at work), and it's in the middle of nowhere. Bunk.
I just got word that the show in NY state tonight was canceled because DF's and Enslaved's Bus broke down somewhere. Hopefully this won't mean they have to cancel the upcoming shows!

Did CNV ever play? I'll be pissed that I missed them, I left after Zircon, but I am sure I will see them at another show for first time, though I've been meaning to see them for over a year.
As far as I know CNV didn't play, which is too bad because I was hoping to see them. The show still kicked major ass, though!
The door time was changed from 6:00PM to 4:00PM, and not everyone knew about it. Actually, New England Concerts sent a myspace message to me with the flyer in it today at 4:30, and the flyer said "doors @ 6". WTF?

HOWEVER the bands killed. Especially Enslaved!!!! The Accursed and Zircon played great sets. Dark Funeral was great, too. I had a good time. Sucks CNV couldn't play!

wtf, I showed up and Enslaved was already playing. Fucking bullshit putting them on before a local. 24 years of going to shows and I've never seen such bullshit as I've seen at Marks.
It was two stages. The Accursed, Zircon and the other local band (which I missed - Cold N. Venganz)
played as soon as the main-stage band was done. They were set up at the other end where the pool tables are. The "headlining" bands - Abigail Williams, Enslaved, and Dark Funeral - played on the main stage. I came in at the Abigail Williams which were really great, a very cute keyboard chick too..
and Enslaved were fucking amazing! there was a small pit going and it was crowded enough that they didnt try to stop us. nice show.. I had to bail at Dark Funeral tho cuz its an hour drive back and I had to get up early

yeah, they went on at like 9. I'm through with fucking Mark's. I live an hour north of there and I'll be going to see these shows in Hartford or Montreal instead. Fuck that place.

CNV did not play because 2 members we're 20 minutes late for their set. They were told to take their stuff down as the show is on a "tight" schedule. I believe they got offered to play March 31st as an opener for 1349 instead.
Enslaved was excellent. Dark Funeral was Dark Funeral. Their guitars were too quiet, etc.
I like the overall general concept of Mark's... I just think it needs a few fixes/changes and it will be great.
I was wicked pissed that Enslaved had to cut 4 or 5 songs from their set in order to accomodate the local bands, it's not like every day or better yet every year that they come here to tour, it didn't make sense. Enslaved however was amazing, they annihilated Dark Funeral, who is easily one of the most boring bands ever. DF guitars were way to thin and they had no energy or charisma. I left 3 songs into their set, in order to be home and up early this morning for work. I really hate driving there, it takes forever plus there are tons of troopers in NH just drooling at you, plus the crowds are always half dead-maybe it's because of the cult that runs it.
I don't care how expensive the palladium is, I miss shows there, I miss the feeling of comfort when I'm not being gawked at by rotating security who is constantly pushing me out of the way in order to pick up an empty beer bottle that's relatively close to the stage. TNT are the biggest assholes going, all their cars were parked in the fire lanes and handicapped parking spots, fuck you and your power-you fackin' cunts!

Playing that second stage was a big let down for me considering all the work that went into playing that place. Needless to say i dont look forward to playing there again, not even the show tomorow.

i totally agree. i knew enslaved would get screwed out of a few songs. i bet they played longer sets at the other stops on the tour. i wanted to hear at least one song from below the lights. oh well, they were still totally worth the money spent on the ticket. i left during dark funeral too. i was bored out of my mind. i could never get into that band and still don't understand how they got the headlining slot over enslaved.

The whole scheme with bands selling the tickets to get on in a certain order is retarded. I think, if they're smart, they'll stop doing that. The sound wasn't bad at Mark's though.. at least it wasn't for enslaved.
i'm actually glad to say i didn't make it. Enslaved will make their way back over here sometime again hopefully. fuck that kike venue.
hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see enslaved come back.

i absolutely agree. the sound there has been questionable, but its not nearly as bad as everyone claims it to be. there have been many, many shows where the sound was awesome. plus it was nice to have the venue fairly close to just about everyone in MA. Bedford NH is way the fuck out of the way for just about everyone except locals to the area. plus, the Palladium is nostalgic, i personally have had many great times there. of course there have been a few crappy ones, but they dont come close to outweighing the good.
yeah the new Lupo's is really nice. the only good show i know of there is Sevendust.

As someone who has played there dozens of times, Mark's is an AWFUL place to play.
Unless you're the national act, they treat you like shit.
90% of the local bands that end up playing during these impromptu metalfests suck balls. The patrons don't give a hot fuck about seeing them which is why they'll either never be there early, or you'll always find 50% of the crowd or more over at the strip club side. And I DON'T blame them.
As a fan, I will ALWAYS choose to see shows at The Palladium over Mark's.
At this point, I only play there cuz they have naked chicks. Sad.

seriously. Sunday night they had two bands playing simultaneously all night long. On top of that, they would switch off between a round of good bands and a round of shitty bands, you'd either be standing around in the lobby bored or missing a band that you want to see, all night long. Fuck the webster.
I think the sound at Marks is fantastic, the size is better than the Palladium and the beer is reasonably priced. Plus when the strip club is open, you can look at tits while the shitty bands play.
Having to sell tickets, I agree is weak and they need to stop over booking. That second stage setup was silly but otherwise I like the club.
At least the 1349 show we got added to is on a Saturday night instead of a fucking Monday.

The pay to play thing does suck, I just don't have time for tickets these days, but honestly, we did very well in the way of money the last time we played at Marks. We have a show there in the summer with Leave's Eyes, and if we are on a "second stage" I will cancel right now. that was bullshit. an insult to the headliners and to the locals who busted their asses to "share" the stage with Enslaved. The whole, un-organized bands on after the headlines and so-forth also sucked!
And I almost forgot, I got fucking shut off last night!!!!!! Fucking bullshit, cunt security there sucks! I must have spent like 150 there last night and have made that club good money when we play there, i was Very offended by that. Horseshit!!!!!
Other than that, I did have a great time!

Actually, drinks at the Palladium have gone up drastically. You're looking at $7 for a mixed drink and upwards of $5 for beers. That's the only thing I like better about Mark's. Still doesn't make up for the crap, though.
Also, bands never payed to play the Palladium. I've played there over 10 times and never once had to pay. However, like you said, if you DID have to pay to play there, it WOULD be a hell of a lot more worth it.
As for why hey aren't booking the shows: The going rumors suggest Bernie is paying national acts a LOT more than the Palladium is willing to, and therefore, this is why he books 6 trillion local "pay to play" acts per show; to make up the cost.
To be perfectly honest, IMO that type of system can only hold up for so long before it comes drastically crashing down. I just hope that when it does, The Palladium isn't so far removed from the scene that it's impossible for them to rebound. As it is right now, outside of 2 or 3 shows not including the Metalfest, it seems everything listed on The Palladium's site is emo shows.

I perspnally prefer to drive down to the palladium, even though marks is almost a hour closer to me. I don't care about sound as long as it's half way decent. both rooms at ther palladium in my mind are pretty sweet. and not that I run around anymore, but the no moshing rule is gay. Almost as gay as not being able to mosh during Ghoul last summer, but not quite.

2nd is Below the Lights, then Frost, Split w/Emperor, Ruun, Isa, Eld, Mardraum. They change their style within each release. Dark Funeral always sounded the same but I still can't wait to see them live. To hear that super tight evil black metal blast live at full volume, makes my blood boil, completely different then listening to them on any stereo under 1000 watts. Sucks theres no moshing.
