Its been ages since Clive Barker made a good movie.Just saw his new one(I forget what its called) and it sucked big time. His other recent movie Saint Sinner was sucky also.In my opinion,he'll never come close to making another movie thats as good as Hellraiser or Nightbreed.

have you ever read his books? every other word is bowels

toggletoggle post by vomitthesoul  at Sep 21,2006 12:02pm
Yes I have read his books.None of his newer ones though

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 21,2006 12:40pm
supposedly he was going to make a bunch of movies based off of his shorter stories, the first one was supposed to be "Midnight Meat Train" but that apparently went nowhere.

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Sep 21,2006 12:59pm
his new stories "The Scarlet Gospels" are supposed to be a return to Books of Blood, including a story w/Pinhead.

but I stopped reading him around Imajica. I like his early stuff though. Better writer than director.

word. Weaveworld is absolutely brilliant. Cabal is nightbreed. Damnation Game, Inhuman Condition(with a short story called The Forbidden which is Candyman), and In The Flesh are also good books.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 21,2006 1:09pm
cabal was a good read. books of blood were short and ok.

Anyone ever get those Clive Barker comics that came out?, I dunno if they still do or not, But I have the 1st and 2nd series. They are so good

I've read some of his books a waaaaay long time ago. I don't really remember them that much, but they were pretty good as much as I can recall.

Is Cabal the one where the dude goes to a city of the dead or something?

Weaveworld was cool. That was the one where the kid goes home at the end and 30 years have passed right? His parents are all old and don't recognize him?

Cabal was basically what the movie Nightbreed. They called it the city of the dead. It was a graveyard city called Midian. The inhabitants were shapeshifters and you had to die to become one. At the end Boone becomes Cabal.

The movie is called The Plague. And I heard it sucked. And Saint Sinner was a TV series that went nowhere. Candyman was his last valiant attempt at a movie. But it's all about Rawhead Rex!

toggletoggle post by dogmeat78 at Sep 21,2006 10:25pm
Yeah, Rawhead Rex was good one. A great read too.

toggletoggle post by dogmeat78 at Sep 21,2006 10:28pm
Fuck, where can I download that one?... anyone?

Rawhead Rex is one of his worst in my opinion. Not that its terrible but I dont care for it a whole lot.The evil priest is fucking hilarious in that. Its so funny when he smashes that guys camera

Rawhead Rex is so beyond cheesy horror that it is a classic. i love the two red LEDs for eyes and the mouth that never moved.

toggletoggle post by all ah that at Sep 22,2006 5:50am
yeah.

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Sep 22,2006 8:03am
it's a great short story though. Barker had a real gift with gore earlier on (his plays are a bit Brechtian and obscure, but interesting nonetheless--INCARNATIONS and FORMS OF HEAVEN. Out of print, but look in your LIBRARY!)

Barker HATES that film.

Who here knows that Barker is gay?

when I was a little kid, my older cousin showed me hellraiser.. might have been on beta.. it was awesome. the moving the mattress scene was probably the first porn I saw. hilarious to see that all these many years later, the movie is one of the most sampled things ever. a mixture of gore, horror, and an intricate sacreligious story line.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 22,2006 9:01am
I would like to point out that this is the best thread you have made yet.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 22,2006 10:40am
my only issue with Hellraiser, dont get me wrong i love that film, is that Pinhead was so weak. he was defeated so easily. the whole time the box was being opened he just walked slowly towards them talking about suffering and pain. he had chains and hooks at his disposal damnit!
