yeah, i think of them mostly as mariners because they became stars in seattle. i always liked seattle, just not as much as my favorite teams, the red sox and padres.

gotta go with the sox or cubs, i used to love the indians and twins as my secondary teams but then when they started winning i could cheer for them anymore.

i like the saints too, but my favorite teams in football are the pats and falcons. when i was a kid, i chose a team from a different city to be my favorite besides the local teams. in football, i picked the falcons because they sucked when i was a kid and i liked something about them. in hockey, i liked the minnesota north stars. in baseball, it was the padres, because gwynn was my favorite player. in basketball, i always liked whichever teams sucked in the west when i was a kid, like the mavericks, kings, and nuggets. i like the memphis grizzlies now.

i dont care the KINGS own, i cant believe how many times they fell on their face to the lakers the last couple of years, and yeah growing up i loved the bears and vikings. hockey i really had a favorite team, i mean pittsburgh was cool, but i didnt really watch it that much. fucking getting stoned and playing kitchen hockey ruled though. ah to be 13 again

my point was that the fans leaving like that highlights a distinction that can be made between the NYY and the Red Sox. Red Sox fans have a genuine love of the history of the team and the current roster regardless of the corporate culture inherent to a MLB team.
