Yeah, the linksys I have has lasted about 3 or 4 years. It is now disconnecting and reconnecting nonstop.
Does the netgear have ports on the back? Can you configure it through a browser? forward/open ports to machines?

speedbooster? lame gimmick.
I've gone through like 4 of the linksys routers.. and then I realized that it's probably the cable modem. Carina also had a linksys cable modem which failed misserably.
once a day, at the worst time, I have to go all the way downstairs, outside to a back room and reset it. granted, I don't mind going in the backdoor, but at 4am? lame. |
|
so netgear is the way to go? |
|
I dunno, I've had my current Linksys for about 2 years now, and the one I had before that I had for about 4 or 5 years. maybe I've just had good luck, or maybe other people have bad luck... |
|
all routers have webview portals. |
|
linksys is cisco and cisco is gay, but I still boght them. |
|
I guess I'm leaning towards the netgear now.... |

went to best buy after deciding on which router I wanted and picked up this for $100
Netgear RangeMax 802.11g Wireless Router
Model: WPN824
This wireless router enables speeds up to 108 Mbps and extended range, so the signal is strong anywhere in your home. Good-bye, dead spots!
* Up to 108 Mbps data transfer rates, up to 2x faster than standard 802.11g networks
* 2.4GHz wireless frequency (802.11b- and 802.11g-compliant)
* Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology uses 7 built-in antennas to optimize signal strength for fast, clear network connections
Took me like 2 minutes to get it working. No more linksys!

yay for my connection not dying every 3 seconds. |
|
you need a netgear card to do the double clocking.
(all they do is sample on the up and down tick of the clock on a G network) |
|
both pc's are directly connected, I gotta try my laptop out. I probably won't get a netgear card for it anytime soon, it has a built in intel. |
|
I'm pissed. I had a 802.11b dell mini-pci card in my lappy. then I decided to put in a 802.11g intel card. I bought it and as I was putting it in I thought "man, if they put bluetooth in this, it would be awesome."
the next week, bang. herpes.
er, I mean 802.11g intel mini-pci card PLUS blue tooth.
color me pissed! |
|
oh, I need to buy a new cable modem.
any suggestions?
I've had problems with both linksys and my SMC |
|
not sure, I know I've had the same cable modem (surfboard) privided by comcast like 5 years ago. still works great. |
|
Yay for Netgear. I was going to say "Yeah, they have 4 ports on the back if you want to go wired." but you figured that out.
And yeah, the Surfboard is a good modem |
