Hot Topic sells CDs by bands that are high sellers, and also CDs that are ordered by customers. I don't like their selection more than anyone else here, but it's just business as usual. If suddenly Vader was doing hot numbers on the Soundscan and the kids were requesting their shirts and CDs, you can bet you'd see a lot of Vader merch in there. I've seen a lot of death metal and punk stuff at my local Hot Topic, though for me it's just a convenient place to grab kitschy video game memorabilia tees, and an occasional Motorhead shirt.
