New site? Maybe some day.
|
Rush- they got a sick drummer |
|
rush rules, get a fucking clue |
|
If you're embaressed by listening to Rush, you have no musical idea. Not only is Neil a fantastic drummer, but Geddy Lee is one of THE best bass players EVER. Hands down.
I'm not ashamed I like these bands, but they're defeintly not my normal taste for music:
Abandoned Pools
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers
The Mooney Suzuki |
|
Rush Rules.
im not ashamed, but guilty of listening to:
The Deftones
Deathcab For Cutie
NIN
Rooney
Thrice
Public Enemy
YEAHHHH BOYYYYYIEEEEEE |
|
the cranberries
portishead
bjork
ha, sometimes you've got to relax |
|
Don't give a fuck if you like what I like or not.
I like music. Metal is my main taste, but I like variety.
The Doors,
Portishead,
Radiohead,
A Perfect Circle,
The White Stripes |
|
I'm listening to the kinks right now |

|
im not embarassed, but im a HUGE Lou Reed/velvet underground fan |
|
i'm not ashamed or guilty that i listen to anything i listen to, but some artists most people wouldn't think of me to listen to are:
stevie wonder
neil fucking diamond
ludacris
duran duran
the bravery and the smiths every once in a while if it just happens to be playing somewhere. |
|
stevie wonder...I've been listening to Songs in the Key of Life constantly these days |
|
not saying I'm ashamed...just reacting to mfr's post
|
|
Survivor!
Not even close to ashamed. |

i'm really not embarassed or ashamed to listen to anything, but some 'mainstream' shit i dig includes....
deftones
queens of the stone age
portishead
primus
alice in chains
pantera
nine inch nails (downward...)
jane's addiction
mad season
old slipknot
soundgarden
tool
jimi hendrix
cat power
pink floyd
led zepplin
and plenty of others i can't recall at the moment.
listen to whatever. i hate when people think they're fucking awesome because they're 'so underground', and anti-this that and the other (not saying anyone here is taking that attitude, its just lame when people act like that....good music is good music, and yes most major label shit blows, but some is good...i'm venting, i'll stop). |

i've been really getting into Radiohead lately. Perfect Circle's 'Mer De Norms' owns, new White Stripes is pretty fucking good too. Just recently was turned on to Portishead through my girl.... shit is bleak and depressingly awesome.
|
|
wow didnt know there were so many portishead fans |
|
haha, duran duran have sick bass lines kok. RESPECT IT, BITCH!
songs in the key of life is quite possibly one of the greatest musical incantations of our lifetime. |
|
hmm...not a lot of bands i'm ashamed of listening to...
I guess John Maher's Room For Squares is a guilty pleasure. I love that cd. Thats the only one i can think of
and dont be ashamed of liking th deftones...they're one of my favorite bands |

if 'old slipknot' refers to 'mate. feed. kill. repeat." then i commend you. i guess that's the only thing i can say i feel 'guilty' listening too just because they got really shitty really fucking quick.
for anyone that has not heard this album, it sounds nothing like aaaanything that slipknot ever put out after that album. completely different lineup. lots of jazz, funk, sludge and doom influence/aspects, no nu metal
|
|
I've been listening to Slade tonight
man this band was gay
but they had wicked catchy tunes! |
|
Marilyn Manson
Garth Brooks
Waylon Jennings

|
rush is the best band ever.

|
portishead rules!
All of you guys who said the Deftones should definately be ashamed of yourselves though.
My favorite bands who aren't metal are The Pogues, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, plus alot of older punk, Fear, The Ramones, The Freeze, SSD, Jerry's Kids, etc |
|
1) I don't like rush
2) the most embarassing thing here is mfr liking the smiths, fag though john maher is up there too.
3) the most surprising thing here is cat power. she rules. I think blue likes her too cause he's a pussy.
4) I like that live CD that they got big with.
I have soooo many MP3s (from CD attained legally through my radio station of course and which I don't share). about 1/3 of it is metal. the rest is everything from miles davis to sara records to gabber to 80s music to rap to aything.
music that I just plain hate is few and far between. I don't like all it shit that you are forcefed from $$$comercial$$$$radio$$$$ but beside that the list of hated music in my book starts and pretty much ends with ani difranco. |
|
The Moody Blues
Led Zeppelin
Gorillaz
Dr. Dre
Guano Apes
Miles Davis
John McLaughlin
Paco De Lucia
Al Di Meola
Carlos Santana
Eric Clapton/The Yardbirds/Derek and the Dominoes
Hybrid
Massive Attack
there are a few others, but those are the most prominent non-metal that I listen to |
|
the_reverend said: ...the rest is everything from miles davis... |
Miles Davis rules! Kind of Blue is my fav album from him |
|
kind of blue is my most listened to jazz record next to a charlie parker comp. I like bird better than miles. the music is music more stripped down and all the recording are shitty, but vintage. |
|
The mighty Zep sometimes. |
|
Oh, and not really a band but the mighty Robert Johnson. The blues man of the world! |
|
listen to whatever the fuck you want, if people don't like it eat shit. |
|
I am embarassed to admit I listen to Noosebomb |
|
SuperFly said: listen to whatever the fuck you want, if people don't like it eat shit. |
AMEN!!! I have to agree with this, sure, most of us are metal heads, but if we didn't listen to other stuff, life would be bland. and we'd have nothing to fight over HAHAHA.
|
|
Beatles
Faith No More
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
David Bowie
Frank Zappa
King Crimson
Jethro Tull
Johnny Cash
ELO
Skinny Puppy
Doors
Theres probably more but I cant remember this early in the morning |
|
I also admittedly still listen to
N*Flames, Soilwork, and Nightwish... let the berating begin... |
|
Joe/NotCommon said: I am embarassed to admit I listen to Noosebomb |

but you dont post pictures of the metal shows you cover! |
|
it's all about fuckin jerry reed |
|
i really like kelly clarkson's "since u been gone". I'm not embarrassed, but dealing with people's reaction can be tiresome. |
|
Frou Frou
The Donnas
The Shins
Phoenix
Ashlee Simpson
Elkland
Gwen Stefani
Zero 7
Kelly Clarkson
Stereophonics
Kenny Chesney |
|
Queen
311
Garth Brooks
Toby Keith
Hank Williams (Jr. + Sr.)
Johnny Cash
Boston
STP
|
|
Johnny Cash (good pick Hose). I'm definitely not ashamed that I listen to JC.
And, although I don't own any albums, I also like The Police. I have no idea why. |
|
Ya know dude....I like The Police a lot too. Message in a Bottle is great.....in fact, it's all good. |
|
The Police are awsome, Stewart Coppoland is an amazing drummer |
|
The Police knew how to write good pop songs and yes Copeland was an amazing drummer! Don't forget andy summers! |
|
shit, you can't forget any of them... they were all very accomplished musicians. |
|
i guess another one for me would be Blink 182...Dude Ranch to Take off Your Pants and Jacket...all awesome cd's. Especially when Travis was in the band, that guy is an amazing drummer. |
|
Elvis
Johnny Cash
Chevelle
Alice in Chains
STP
NIN
Dave Mathews Band
Black Label Society
If people bash you for what you listen to outside of metal, they should put their balls in their asshole, clog themselves and die. |

john maher is far gayer than the smiths.
one night on tour, going from north carolina to kentucky, terminally your aborted ghost sang a good collection of smiths/morrissey songs at like 3:00 am in unison. it was pretty faggotronic. i didn't know the words at that point though, so i'm not aaas gay as the rest of em, hahah
i also forgot destiny's child. bootylicious is probably the only "pop" song that i can actually say i fully enjoy. they're more r&b anyway |
|
|
YEAH YOU WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?! HUH?! |
|
hahah im way to bootylicious for ya |

actually i was refering to most of the 1st 2 major releases. most of the material on mate.feed.kill.repeat ended up being the songs on 'iowa' and a couple on the s/t one.

I'm not embarrassed but I get a lot of crap for being a huge Chicago fan.
(usually when I refuse to turn it off)
The old shit, not that "You're the Inspiration" garbage.
The first 5 Chicago albums are amazing.
Terry Kath was like the white Jimi Hendrix (even Jimi said he was awesome), Peter Cetera is a waaay underrated bass player, Danny Seraphine was the sickest drummer ever.
Me and Seth saw Chicago a few years ago and for no reason at all we got upgraded to front row seats. We snuck in a bunch of booze and were basically behaving like we were at a Slayer show. A bouncer comes up to us and I thought we were going to get kicked out, but instead I hear "Would you guys like to sit in front?"
I guess they wanted to fill the front row with people who were really into it. After that we really went nuts. I kept throwing the horns every time a member of Chicago came near me. They didn't know what the fuck that was all about.

most of these responses are so dumb. who is ashamed to listen to led zep or hendrix? 80 percent of the bands people listed are all awesome or at least should not be ashamed to listen to them.
except for that dude that listed ashlee simpson, thats just wrong.
(i do like that since youve been gone kelly clarkson song though so i shouldnt talk) |
|
I listen to / have CDs from a lot of the band you folks mentioned.
Also
Ani Difranco
Britney Spears |
|
can't believe nobody said Interpol considering some of the bands listed. Interpol rules. Turn On The Bright Lights is one of favorite records of the past 10 years. and the new one, Antics, not a bad song on it. Other modern pop masters, like it or not, are Keane and Snow Patrol, the Killers, too, I guess and even the Bravery and Franz Ferdinand to a lesser degree. One record I'm gonna pick up is the new Death Cab For Cutie.
Mazzy Star (as well as Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions)
the Verve (Urban Hymns is a masterpiece)
Radiohead (the Bends = perfect record)
Richard James aka the Aphex Twin
Daft Punk
Simon & Garfunkel
Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin
Beach Boys
Bob Dylan
Hank Williams & his insane grandson
Air
Depeche Mode (some, like the new song, too)
Gang Of Four
Sigur Ros
old Chicago is pretty cool as is old Genesis (can't believe they spawned the worst artist ever, Phil Collins).
Toby Keith, fuck, that's the only thing listed that made me cringe.
Pharcyde, "Passing Me By" is one of the best rap tunes ever. totally musical, for rap.
the only record I'm embarrassed for liking is, Carcass' Heartwork. hah.

I listen mostly to country music, but none of that travis tritt/toby keith shit. that's just pop music, ya might as well be listening to Brittany Spears...
some bands i love:
Lucinda Williams
Johnny Cash
Hank Williams
Whiskeytown
Okkervil River
Puerto Muerto
Old 97's
Sixteen Horsepower
...there's really a sick country "underground" out there
One of the trendy-er things i listen to is Ryan Adams. His new album is great. total Hank Williams style
I guess the one singer I'm ashamed to admit loving is Pat Boone. I saw him a few years ago, at a high school in RI. His opening act was the local mentally retarded chorus!
one of the greatest things i've ever seen in my life... |

Isn't Ryan Adams the same guy who got a mediocre review on Pitchfork and then called up the editor and threw a hissy fit over getting a 5.5/10? |

probably. supposedly he's pretty arrogant. there was a radio interview he did where he yelled at the dj for playing Steely Dan before interviewing him(adams).
