I rock "Loveless" at my work as often as is reasonable. My favorite shoegaze band has to be Slowdive though. "Souvlaki" and "Just for a Day" are both phenomenal.

MBV is untouchable. Slowdive is awesome, but it's got nothing on loveless.I would typically listen to G500 before Slowdive.

I've had a few people tell me I should check out Galaxie 500 but I've just never really had the chance to. They're not really all that shoegazey though are they? I thought they were more of an alt-rock band or something.

Galaxie 500 is related to shoegaze, just more melodic.
They're kinda faggy though.

galaxie 500 is amazing. beautiful song writing on top of the jangles. more like the pixies then MBV, but a lot of long songs that would make no sense as pixies songs. plus the guy that became Luna's voice is in it.
I would say if you took Loveless and the Velvet Underground and mixed them together, you get G500
