Here's GW's Top 10 Metal Amps list:

1. JCM800 2203
2. Mesa Triple Recto
3. Bogner Überschall
4. Randall Warhead
5. VHT Pittbull Ultralead
6. Marshall VS8100
7. Line 6 HD-147
8. Marshall MF-350
9. Mesa Road King
10. Peavey XXX

(this was from the March 2004 issue of Guitar World)

THE MODE FOUR? NO 5150? NO ENGL? FRAMUS?

a retarded travesty.

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Mar 31,2005 1:36pm
no JCM900 mod2100

fucktards indeed

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Mar 31,2005 1:46pm
WHAT??? NO METAL ZONE??????

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Mar 31,2005 1:54pm
My Line 6 made the gay list -- sweeeeet.

toggletoggle post by Aegathis nli at Mar 31,2005 3:26pm
Whats the Marshall vs8100 like? is that pretty much the same as Rons amp ?

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Mar 31,2005 5:44pm
why are you reading mainstream magazines about metal to begin with? isn't that the same magazine that said Munky and Head from Korn were 2 of the 50 best guitarists in metal?

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Mar 31,2005 6:09pm
there is no reason for the hd-147 to be on that list. and the triple recto shouldnt be so high on there either. they totally ignored the boutique industry all together with the exception of the bogner.

toggletoggle post by Paulll at Mar 31,2005 7:47pm
The peavey XXX wtf? no 5150???. Triple rec wtf??? I can see the JCM 800 the first models when cranked had SICK tone. The triple rec is overrated WAY overrated and the newer 5150 and 5150 II models. the EVH series of 5150 are probably one of the most brutal heads ever though. This list needs to be seriously revised.

toggletoggle post by Drakine at May 28,2006 1:38am
Hughes all the way!!!!!!!!

toggletoggle post by Ryan_M at May 28,2006 9:49am
i didn't know there were "metal" amps.

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at May 28,2006 10:42am
Worst list ever.

toggletoggle post by George nli at May 28,2006 11:43am
i prefer the peavy butcher pratice amp with my metal master pedal

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at May 28,2006 12:36pm
Since Tony Iommi IS metal, Laney should be on this list.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at May 29,2006 12:10am
Bogner Überschall i remember red tide used those and i think so did bloodhasbenshed. i think they are like waaaaaaaaay overpriced but ok, they did sound insanley good. i wish i was rich.

The 6505 replaced the 5150. The 5150 hasn't been around for a couple of years.....I think.

toggletoggle post by kkkramer at Oct 19,2007 1:07pm
obviously the mesa triple rec is the best. Name something better

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 1:27pm
...hmm...better than a triple rec...how about...gee...pretty much everything

toggletoggle post by kkkramer at Oct 19,2007 1:31pm
solid state amps also blow. you are just upset because you can't afford the triple rec. tube amps>solid stateX100

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 1:36pm
I have an ENGL Powerball and a Mesa Dual Rectifier

money ain't a thang, man.

Mesa is good for hardcore, grind, rock...not metal so much.

I haven't owned a solid state in 5 years

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 1:37pm
also, the clean tone on the rectifier is very nice...full bodied...good stuff.

The triple rec is silly though. I wish my dual was a single, actually.

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at Oct 19,2007 1:41pm
We've used Dual Recs in the studio with good results. However, it's certainly not the be-all, end-all.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 1:42pm
it's great for anything that has a lot of intricate open distorted chords, or just needs that raw buzz.

I find that it's difficult to get a focused sound out of them. We used my recto in the studio to do all of our clean stuff.

Also the third channel is overused, second channel is a much more diverse channel.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Oct 19,2007 1:45pm
not all rectifiers are created equal. there are many a shitty ones out there.

toggletoggle post by rilly at Oct 19,2007 1:48pm
killswitch uses triple recs and they sound amazing

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Oct 19,2007 2:04pm
killswitch does not use triple recs.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 2:06pm
yeah, I think they used framus in studio

and I feel gay for knowing that

toggletoggle post by rilly at Oct 19,2007 2:13pm
they used to and they sounded amazing. 2 real nasty guitarists in that band that can play just about anything

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Oct 19,2007 2:18pm
maybe its cause adam is a sound guru and can make anyone sound really good with a few clicks of a button...

toggletoggle post by rilly at Oct 19,2007 2:23pm
including you. That band is amazing and I'm proud to be a killswitchster for life. Joe stump made those two guys shred gods/guitar heroes

toggletoggle post by CMTAIB at Oct 19,2007 2:27pm
adam d messaged us the otherday saying that he only wishes he could achieve our sound.

toggletoggle post by CMTAIB at Oct 19,2007 2:28pm
with that said the modded 5150's sound awesome.

toggletoggle post by rilly at Oct 19,2007 2:31pm
yeah right. Like SRV. KSE has got the "tone" you all wish you had but never will. You all would kill to have adam in your band

toggletoggle post by CMTAIB at Oct 19,2007 2:36pm edited Oct 19,2007 2:38pm
ok... buddy thats why he invited us to go on tour with them
i feel bad because after we play everyone will already be
beat from the brutality that we have caused.
if you have not seen CMTAIB then.. well you haven't lived.

toggletoggle post by nick // dys at Oct 19,2007 2:45pm
what about KRANKS man!? hahahahaha! pthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

toggletoggle post by jere nli at Oct 19,2007 3:26pm
just did all the tubes in my 5150 and im still having a problem with the tone, just cant seem to pull a sound im happy with, fucking pissing me off!

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Oct 19,2007 3:36pm
Am I the only one who prefers the single rectifier over the dual or triple.... probably.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 3:38pm
actually, I said the same thing in this thread about an hour ago

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 19,2007 3:38pm
sorry 2 hours ago

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Oct 19,2007 3:43pm
oops, sorry. Good to see I'm not alone. I love my single rec. Never played a dual or triple that came close. WAAAY underated.

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Oct 19,2007 3:44pm
Actually, I shouldn't say that. A good dual can sound great, too.

toggletoggle post by jere nli at Oct 19,2007 4:47pm
lookin at an engl now but damn thats pricy for a poor fuck like me

toggletoggle post by fishatwork at Oct 19,2007 5:25pm
