Initially, the teenage boys were defended by the community (the local football team is a source of pride) who painted Jane Doe as a consenting partner and even went on to shame her. Football coach, Nate Hubbard sums up the community sentiment best:

1. Cases with enough evidence to go to court
2. Cases where no one knows if they're true
3. Cases that are obviously false
