a friend of mine has a friend, who has an uncle, who JUST died from a flesh eating bacteria not more than two weeks ago. Apparently he had a sore throat, which he thought was strep. He has only had the sore throat for a day when he woke up the next morning with huge black bruises on his ankles. He went to the local hospital about it, and they said they needed to get him IMMEDIATELY to Mass Generel because he was very, very sick. When he got to MG, they amputated both of his legs, did some tests, and told him there was nothing more they could do because he had a "Flesh eating bacteria" and that he'd be dead soon. Sure enough, he was dead within 24 hours.

*so from the onset of "strep-like" symptoms, it was less than 72 hours before he was dead. Totally true story. The hospital said they had NO idea where the bacteria came from, and that he was probably exposed to it by accident.
