Plot The film features Peter Cushing as a Nazi commander who commanded a division of SS soldiers - 'Der Toten Korps', who can 'live' underwater - intended to man U-boats which need no oxygen and never need to surface. The film also stars John Carradine and Brooke Adams in her first film. Director Ken Wiederhorn's additional horror credits include Eyes Of A Stranger (Warner Bros. 1983); Return Of The Living Dead, Part II (Lorimar 1988); and A House In The Hills. The backdrop ship is the SS Sapona, a concrete-hulled cargo steamer that ran aground near Bimini during a hurricane in 1926.
